Knock yourself out, each to his own and all that. The reason lycra is tight is that it doesn't flap in the wind. Those might.

That's true. Unless they have quite tight inners, there will be a lot of adjust ment on the fly.

EDIT: Actually do those shorts even have padding??? If not, they won't be that comfortable at all.

I have a pair of these for casual cycling and they're pretty good: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=40476

Haven't noticed much flapping in the wind with them.

I use Endura Singletrack shorts with padded shorts. Good quality and dont look too bad when using road bike although mainly worn on the MTB. Cant do links but CRC have them.

More important than the clothes matching the bike is that your shorts match your jersey, flappiness wise.

If you wear baggy shorts with a skintight jersey you'll look like someone who is trying to hide something.

If both are baggy, you'll just look like someone on the wrong bike.

once you`ve got decent padding, wear what you want, who cares what you look like, beides, we all look like twats in lycra shorts anyway,

ive yet to cycle past a bunch of people and for them to say, "hey, cool shorts" plus, the lycra ones make you look like your hung like a light switch

each to their own, ill stick with the action man crotch for now

Well done fiestaman, took me some time to take the plunge into skintight lycra but once you do there is no going back. What sort of budget and riding do you plan in these shorts? They are a personal thing and vary widely in price. I am a fan of Descente in the sales myself as it (generally) fits me well.
