Career opportunities

Hi all, i am looking for some advice. I am a qualified Fitter/Welder and i am also doing a higher certificate in Mechanical engineering. I will be finished this cert next year, my question is what job choices do i have with both these qualifications?

Thanks in advance

Hi jono.

I'm not sure the higher certificate will qualify yuo for any engineering jobs, i've only ever seen ones for degree/masters/Phd qualifications.

i did that same cert, but followed it to the degree. There was a fitter in the course with me in your position. Last i ran in to him he was teaching an engineering class, in one of the small colleges. Cant remember which

If you have a cert and your trade, it might help you get a technicians job performing machine maintenance in a factory or as a tool maker in a factory workshop.

I could be wrong, but i think when it comes to cert, diploma and degree qualifications your better off sticking at it til you get the degree. Its kind of an all or nothing situation as there is an abundance of engineering degree graduates in the jobs market at the min, not to mind similarly qualified people with work experience who lost their jobs.

good luck

I'm an experienced multi disciplined mech fitter with an ordinary degree and now shutdown season is over i cannot find any sort of a half decent job.
Probably should go on and get a level 8 but i'm sick of college at this stage. It's just one big ego fest with most of the lecturers, in CIT anyway. Four years serving your time counts for nothing these days.
You'd want a masters to get anywhere.
Something will come along eventually ~ hopefully!.
Rant over.
