I had a look at the time lapse radar, can see the cell you were hit by, but unless you've got some wind damage it sounds more like a squally thundershower. These can always drop a funnel cloud for a few minutes and so if you do have some wind damage in the area, this could have taken place. The radar echoes around 0900-0945 in the area between Tralee and Killarney looked quite severe as well, and were on a much larger scale, would not be surprised to hear about flooding or wind damage along that path. These have since weakened as they approached Cork from the northwest.
Also, there could be more of these locally heavy or severe storms that are quite small scale, in western Ireland particularly, rest of today. The reason is strong winds and cold air aloft, not reaching the ground but creating a rapid updraft for shower cells. Then there's Bill ... would advise anyone in western Ireland to stay tuned for developments as some of the forecast models show quite a strong storm late Tuesday from remnants of Bill. |
