Legend of the Seeker

Anyone catching this on Sci-Fi? Series adoptation of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth books.

I've never read the novels, but just happened across the pilot episode last week and it was enjoyable enough.

Was thinking of getting into the books but from what I've read about them online it seems like the first 5 are good and then the series takes a pompous self-absorbed nose dive after that. And checking out his official website too, he looks like a bit of a gimp. That picture of him on his homepage makes him look like a new age cult leader or something Will probably just stick to the TV series.

I've just finished watching the series the weekend. On Book 8 of his series at the moment (Got as far a book 5/6 loads of time but couldnt bring myself to finish them - on a mission to finish them now).

As someone who read the books I didn't really like the series at all, i felt a lot of the casting choices weren't very good (with the exception of Zedd who I thought was an excellent choice).

The plot from the books, which was never complex in the first place, is pretty much butchered into easily digestible 45 minute chunks that have very little basis on the books other than the main characters, overall plot idea and some name drops of people places and cameo roles.

Its pretty much a Xena style clone with more magic in it.

I just watched some of the first episode of the show last night. I'm glad to hear that they butchered the book because what I saw was a horrifically made Star Wars rip off.

I'll have to pick up one of the books and give it a gander.

Considering the books are utter mind poison I'm giving this a miss.

I've read all the books and agree with the above, first 5 good etc, etc. I've been quite dissapointed with the series so far. Doesn't do justice to those first 5 books at all...

I've read the first 10 books but I can't convince myself to read No.11 - 'Confessor'. To be honest I can hardly remember the plot at this stage it's so long since i read No.10 - 'Phantom'.
Anyway, regarding the TV series I can't bring myslef to watch it. I've only seen TV trailers and the casting looks terrible. The guy playing Richard looks young enough to be his son and the Mord-Sith seemed about as scary as a newly qualified, primary-school teacher.

I like the seriesw from what I've seen but then again I was a fan of Hercules & Zena.

Its just like LoTR and people need to realise that tv is a different medium to TV so the story will never be 100%. Hell it may not be even 50% alot of the times.

Having said that I read 'The Last Legion' before I saw it on screen (it was butchered whether you were a fan before or not!) as opposed to stumbling on to sci fi books after the movie/tv series was made and I was by no means impressed.

Still its good to see good fantasy programs being made as opposed to so called 'reality' programs

I was in San Diego, and a friend reccommended the series to me. He went out and bought me the first book(Wizard's First Rule). Looked at the cover, "international best seller" so I thought, "must be good". Terrible book, unless his style vastly improves I can't see myself reading them.

I thought the first book was reasonably good, although the blurb and cover made it seem far lighter than it actually was. The second though just annoyed me and I haven't heard much positive beyond that. I'd say there's plenty of superior series out there to enjoy.
