Damaged knee - looking for a good specialist

Hi folks, I damaged my knee years ago playing soccer and its plagued me on and off ever since.
I've read up quite a bit on it lately and it seems I may have a meniscus tear and/or cartilage/bone fragments in my left knee.
I could live with it up until about a year ago until I got into a routine playin soccer on astro turf, then my knee swelled up like a balloon.
Now it locks up daily (which is pretty painful), I've no strength in it at all, clicks all the time, hard lumps appear around the knee cap occasionally when I bend my knee then disappear when I straighten out my leg.
It's getting worse and now it's really starting to make an impact on my fitness/general health.

I've been to physiotherapy in the past and no joy there (its not gonna help with the loose bone/cartilage anyway) so I'm looking for a good sports doctor/specialist to set me right, ideally around Dublin city centre but anywhere in Dublin would do.

Any help or advise would be much appreciated.

Don't try to diagnose yourself with information from the Internet.

No-one here can give you the advice you need. Please, go to your GP and get expert advice from a medical professional. If needs be, your GP can refer you down the surgical route.

Best of luck ... if you want, when you go to your GP, come back and let us know how you get on. You might find people here have been in the same boat.

I'm locking this thread now as per the Charter.
