Transferring files PC->Mac

I've got a bunch of AVI files that I want to give to a friend, but

a) she's got a Mac
b) she's in the States.

I'll see her next month, so I was thinking of just giving her a DVD of all the files, but how do I ensure that the DVD I give her will be readable by the Mac, or is that even possible? I've got only the basic Windows burning software, but I can get Nero, etc, if necessary.

Also, I did a quick search for playing AVI files on a Mac, and VLC popped up. I use it in Vista myself, is the Mac version as easy to use? Is it recommended for playing AVI's or is there a better solution?

VLC on a Mac is more-or-less the same as VLC on a PC. The problem isn't the .avi part - that's just the "wrapping", so-to-speak, of the movie - it depends on how the movie is encoded. Xvid, Divx etc.

Get Flip4Mac and Perian (both free) and install them both on the Mac. Then, Quicktime will play pretty much any format, any encoding. No need for VLC.
