Good stuff. Could you put up a league table every 5 games or so?

4 wins out of 4 after a 1-0 against Emmen and the Super Eagles are alone at the top. **olle are second last!
Colak is looking like a great buy already.

14/08/2009 RBC Roosendaal - Go Ahead Eagles 1-3 (Van der Biezen 2, Colak 1)
21/08/2009 Go Ahead Eagles - De Graafschap 1-0 (Van der Biezen)
24/08/2009 FC Emmen - Go Ahead Eagles 0-1 (Colak)
28/08/2009 Go Ahead Eagles - Fortuna Sittard 2-0 (Van der Biezen, Parnela)

Following matches: Excelsior (away), FC Oss (home), FC **Olle (away), BV Veendam (home)

Five down, four to go in the 1st period. Fans are going crazy in Deventer! Hopefully we'll win the 1st period in the away game in **Olle, would be great to defeat them in their own stadium. I think GAE will end up in places 3-5 in the competition at the end of season. Winning the championship is very hard because we don't have a lot of money to spend. But the current squad is fine.

I was mystified by the lack of Sander Post in the lineup tonight and look what happens two minutes after he comes on! Hope he can get a winner and give us the 3 points in Rotterdam.

04/09/2009 Excelsior Rotterdam - Go Ahead Eagles 1-1 (Post)

Following matches: FC Oss (home), arch rival FC **Olle (away), BV Veendam (home)

Koen van der Biezen is our current target man, Post is more of a pinch hitter. Would like to see them play next to eachother, but that doesn't fit in Ulderink's tactical system. Five wins and one draw; he must be right...

Does the first part of the season end after Veendam or is there one more to go?

This season's competition is devided into 4 ,periodes' of 9 matches, teams which have the most points in such a ,periode' play against eachother (amongst the worst 2 teams in Eredivisie, which is the top-league in Holland) in two play-off poules at the end of season. Winning the play-offs results in playing in the Eredivisie next season.

So if we win the next two matches (my guess is that we'll win the periode after beating -or drawing against- **olle in their stadium because nrs. 2 and 3 will not win both matches to my opinion) just one point against Veendam is enough for playing in the play-offs.

But our ultimate target of course is to become champions in our league, might be difficult but we should always want the best for our boys. Which is the championship...

So, even the team with the most points at the end of the season is not guaranteed to get promoted? In fact, there might be no promoted teams if the Eredivisie's worst teams beats them in the play-offs?
It's a really unusual but in many ways very fair system.

My information was incomplete and in a way incorrect... Sorry, my mistake.

The Jupiler League (JL) Champion promotes to Eredivisie, substituting nr. 18 of Eredivisie.

Nrs. 16 & 17 of the Eredivisie play in the play-offs, amongst the winners of the ,periodes' (4 teams) and the 4 highest ranked teams of Jupiler League without a ,periode'. Teams are given a number according to their ranking at the end of season.

1st round play-offs: nr. 5 JL vs nr. 8 JL (A); nr. 6 JL vs nr. 7 JL (B)
2nd round play-offs: winner (A) vs nr. 17 Eredivisie [C]; nr. 1 JL vs nr. 4 JL [D]; nr. 2 Jl vs nr. 3 JL [E]; winner (B) vs nr. 16 Eredivisie [F)
3rd round play-offs: winner [C] vs winner [D]; winner [E] vs winner [F]

Winners of the 3rd round promote to or stay in Eredivisie.

Not a very simple system, but according to KNVB (union like FA in Engeland) it works. We'll see at the end of season.
