There'd be no issue getting to the M1 northbound from Donabate. just come up Turvey avenue, use the Roundabout at Tesco to head back north and get on the M1 at J5 Courtlough/Balbriggan south.
Coming back south in the evenings, you can use the Lissenhall junction off the M1 J4 I think and the Hearse road into Donabate. not much more than 7mins from the M1 in heavy traffic. |

I would think generally OK, the problems would be from the airport to Collins Avenue and then through Drumcondra.
You could use the 142 express bus (normal fares) via the Port Tunnel.

definitely no need to get on at Junct 4 in the morning; would be much quicker to head up to the next junct where you have no traffic all the way. I doubt its a 5min drive from the end of turvey ave. in fact, in the evening I'd come back the same way too, and then head down turvey again; no lights, and no chance of traffic. It'd be much of a muchness timewise but no risk of traffic. you're guaranteed to get traffic from donabate to Junct 4 both ways., esp in the mornings. the lucky thing is you're heading horth and not south

Didn't there used to be a no right turn sign at the end of Turvey avenue? The road here is odd, the dual carriageway fizzles out just before this turn. The logical thing to do would have been to extend the dual section by 100m and put a roundabout here.

there'd always be hassles and traffic is apparent. bottom line is, you've to start early to avoid and minimize both.

There is no right turn at the top of Turvey Avenue. I usually turn left and head south as far as the Tesco roundabout and then head north from the roundabout. I have seen drivers take a chance on turning right at the top of Turvey Avenue but for the sake of about 2 minutes or less, I wouldn't take the chance.

There's about 400m of a detour, 20m to the RAB and 200m back
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=5...20256&t=h&z=16 You take the new road from Turvey Ave. proper, through the industrial units, left to the RAB and turn around. The R132 isn't a "Minor road" as such, it has hard shoulder most of the way north to J5, and a grade separated junction at the five roads.... It's better quality than either the Hearse road or Turvey Ave. The furthest back I ever stopped in traffic* was where the tesco RAB is now. I'd imagine the recession would ensure there'd be no traffic back as far as this now. * apart from the days the M1 was closed- when traffic backed up to Gormanston..... |
