Irish surnames.

Is there any place where I can get extensive info on them or their distribution?
I know the Americans have a search for surname distribution, wondered if the Irish had one too. It's an ancestry query.

There are those shops on Nassu St. and Dame St. that specialise in those things...I think (I've never actually been in them), you might try those.

Put it into history and heritage, there are a good few experts in there. You have a good range of sources open to you, what exactly did you want to do with the infromation? There are extensive datasets from griffiths valuation to the census that will allow you to map distribution from the mid 19th century onwards.

The national library is always an excellent place to start

Hi. Just wanted a general idea of the name I have which I think its one of/the most common English name in Ireland. Distribution is a point of interest. Would love to find emigration records too as I have an Irish ancestor from the NW. How do I find the Griffiths valuation and the census?

Your local public library should have these on microfilm.

You can search by name on this site and it returns the worldwide distribution of that name. You can also zoom in on the country and see the distribution there too
