Dive computer

I'm looking to purchase a dive computer, budget up to about €300-€350

Usually i rent whatever they have at the dive centres.

i'm PADI OWD certified but only dive twice or 3 times a year so something cheap but functional would be ok.

what are good brands/functionalilty i should be looking out for?

thanks

no real need to splash out and buy a new one if your only diving a few times a year..

have a look on ebay, i would say a Sunnto Gekko would to the job for you, you should be able to pick up one for €150 or so second hand.

im sure there are plenty of other makes aswell, but all the computers i have ever owned have been Sunnto so i cant comment on the price/functionallity of other makes.

check out this place aswell:

lots of second hand gear on there.

Would definitely recommend the Gekko, Infact any of the Suuntos are good IMO. I have used the Cobra & Vyper. They are a small bit more conservative than some of the Algorythyms used by the older alladins but I'd highy rate them. Brand new ones for sale for 199 euro on oceanlife.ie

I'd say delivery to Ireland will prob cost more than 7 euro... think the 199 deal in Ireland is a bit better...

Nah, tis a way better deal... what if you have a problem with it?? You going to have to try deal with a store on the other side of the globe vs within Ireland... far better proposition...

always sunnto for me have a vyper which i think they are discontinuing hence the cheap prices but it gives the option of nitrox as well and 3 ranges to dive as in very conservative not so conserative and even less conservtative but im sure its descibed as something else.

Have a d4 now that i use mainly for freediving and a watch but has nitrox and air obviously too very hapy with it. they took back my 6 onth old d3 in part exchange for it as i was having trouble with it.

Here's the dive computer section of divegear.ie , they tend to sell quickly though!

Some good deals here. But there's always a catch... Just had a quick look and some of the Aladdins are discontinued and to the point where scubapro no longer service them.

Some of the older pros were user changable batteries, but scubapro encased the batteries in a gel which requires them to be changed by scubapro themselves which they are no longer doing. If buying off the likes of this site make sure that you can still get the gear serviced cause if the batt dies wave bye bye to your money....

(and as a note, make sure any regs you buy off this site are CE stamped too, it will be very very difficult to get them serviced otherwise)
