Loads of clubs near you, check a few of them out.
Look out for events organised for beginners, you'll want to join in with people of a similar standard.
Also look for an active social side to the club, makes it easier to find people to play.
No point in joining a big club with great facilities if no one will play with you.

In general, tennis clubs are very welcoming to beginners, go down and ask around and see what's on offer.
Ask can you join in for an evening to see if you like it.

If you don't feel welcome, shop around.
But with the exception of some of the more exclusive clubs, tennis clubs are a welcoming lot and will be glad to have a another member.

But some will have more for your standard than others.

Check out some of the smaller clubs too, sometimes they can be the best places to start out.

Just saunter down one evening and ask for the person who looks after new members, try and suss out the atmosphere of the place and see if it suits you.

Check out http://www.leinstertennis.ie/userfil...dar%202009.pdf

since you are 17 you'd still be able to play in parks tennis. I think the nearest place would be Clarinda Park in Dun Laoghaire. It's really cheap coaching and you meet other people from all the local clubs.

The parks tennis is a really good idea, and it's practically free.
