Hi devereaux17,
I am from Paris myself but I have no idea what a banlieue in paris accent is Could you pls explain ? Is it like an Edith Piaf accent, i.e. typically Parisian or what?On a more serious note, as someone rightly pointed out, practice makes perfect and a trip to Paris would help. I only got to improve my English accent when I arrived here many years ago and I started speaking English with tons of different people. Might prove a wee bit hard on your own though. Sure, you could always watch some DVDs for more insight. The TAXI DVDs would be perfect for Parisian or banlieue accent actually! My Irish husband found them very entertaining and he picked up a few Parisian expressions, which he liked. Good luck, Nat |

merci beaucoup
![]() some of my favourite french moves are La Haine(i read that even certain french people needed subtitles in this movie) and Banlieue 13, which are both set in Paris. I'm not sure of the name of the film but maby you might know, its about a old women who takes in orphans and two of the boys are Jewish and Muslim, its a great movie, from the 70's I think. Very funny. Last edited by devereaux17; 08-07-2009 at 13:29. |

Unfortunately, this movie doesn't ring a bell. Can you remember the name of the actors?
My husband has seen La Haine and he liked it too. It's true there's a lot of slang going on in the movie and since slang is quite regional, some French people might not understand it all depending on where they are from. Maybe you can also watch some French TV programmes on the Internet, I mean French chat shows such as the ones broadcast on Canal +. There are some interesting "émissions" out there. I myself need to try and watch a bit more French TV from here because my French is now polluted with English! I try and watch the French news every evening on TV5 and I find that listening to some Parisian radio station can be good too. Nat |

Le Grand Journal is a good mix of topical debate and celebrity interviews, it runs Monday through Friday. It'll be back in September after the summer break. |

French Tv is the biggest load of crap ever, once I can afford it I am going to get a Sky Digibox and watch some real TV.
The only thing I watch on French tv is Canal+ (Grand Journal, zapping) and thats about it. Maybe a few nature programmes but that's about it. Now I know why so many people here love the cinema. Edit: Why would you want a knacker accent from Paris. Because that's basically what it is. |
