Roscommon will have to dig alot deeper to bury them ghosts.

I can't see how a loss to Meath can bury the total annihilation of Roscommon by Mayo.
I'm just glad that you are not representative of the general view in Mayo. There would not be so much of this raving and pathetic digs at others, just worry about Mayo and hope they do well.
If everyone in Mayo was like you I would be shouting against Mayo at every turn, but as it turns out I know lots of Mayo people and they are not like you at all, so I hope to see Mayo do very well in the Championship.

Shannonside is a radio station, I think there is a radio forum if you want to spout sh1te about a radio station.

Roscommon GAA do not control the local radio station nor have any input into who commentates or what views they hold.
Oh and by the way that radio station covers Roscommon/Longford/Cavan/Monaghan and South Leitrim afaik.

You should remember before you start typing to think, if Mayo were to lose their next match they would only have lasted a week longer than Galway and Roscommon and you are saying they had a short summer.

The horrid defeat to Mayo was not a huge surprise in Roscommon, its a team of young players and some very important players were missing. For sure Roscommon's full back line is in bad, bad shape but it is going to take time to recover from where Roscommon were in 2007, if you remember they were hammered by Galway last year. 2-16 to 0-6 was the final score and it was a draw at halftime.

Roscommon were at their lowest ebb last year but this year even with that defeat to Mayo its clear that the team has some belief as they proved against Wexford. Again the full back line was not up to the task against Meath and there was some silly mistakes which ended up giving possession and scores to Meath. It was not that one-sided though.

Leaving aside where Roscommon stand and various performances, I want to bring up an absolutely glaring flaw in ALL county Roscommon sides (minors 06 excepted) over the last 20 years. It hit home again over the weekend watching the minors.

Roscommon NEVER, EVER win their fair share of breaking ball at midfield !!!!! They don't even come close.

This is not an occasional blip, this is consistantly happening year after year after year and I am astonished that the powers that be haven't addressed it, because they surely must have noticed it. It's almost laughable except it's so bloody serious.

This is the area of the field where most primary possesion is won and if you aren't at least breaking even how are you expected to win a match?

I appreciate at senior level the talent is a bit thin on the ground at the moment, but even with better teams, this has been a MAJOR PROBLEM.

I agree Roscommon won absolutely no breaking ball in the first half in Navan, in fairness they did win a bit at the start of the second half, but again allowed Meath 3 or 4 clean catches later on. Whats more they did nothing about it - they made no changes in that sector, continues to kick long kickouts, didn't crowd the middle, etc. Without primary possession they were always going to struggle - ok O'Neill and Mannion are two big losses but they should have varied the tactics given the way things were going.

Just in case Mike...thought that I was avoiding commenting on Roscommons loss.

From what I hear there are lots of positives to take from the game, and the games against Wexford.
Fundamentally the big gaps are there to be seen, as pointed out Midfield especially, but a lack of strength throughout, meaning forwards played as backs and vice-versa (McDermott, Cregg,Cox etc)
We have given away goals vs Leitrim, Mayo, Wexford and now Meath, to help address the rot through the centre we had to resort to switching one of our most attacking and creative players (Cregg) back to play deep. So you could see that we were set out against Meath with a certain element of damage limitation.

But as seasons go, as we are in a rebuilding or actually building a team there are lots of positives to be taken, and the negatives will be looked at and addressed im sure. As stated Mannion and O'Neill were missing, but realistically O'Neills best days are behind him. Alot of the 06 minors are still in the mix and seem to be performing well too, so its possibly a good platform to work from. The senior club championship will be ready to go into full swing so maybe a man or two will step up to the plate and show promise in the midfield regions. A bit more pace would help as well. Just basically Usain Bolt who can catch and kick 4 points a game!!

Obviously going by Mikes view whoever Shannonside think plays well will get a call up

There is no way Cathal Cregg should be played n the backs. He's our best player by far. There's a good reason why we haven't scored any goals in our last 4 championship games.

The lack of goals wouldnt be as huge of a concern if a) we werent conceding them and b) we were scoring more freely from play. A huge percentage of our scores from frees was quite high in the recent matchs. But as I said, its obvious where our weaknesses are. we just have to concentrate on getting the balance right of not getting weaker in other areas in order to strengthen the weak areas.

i see alot of francie grehan in cregg, i think the time is right now to move cregg in around the half back line like they moved grehan in 2000 or thereabouts and he thrived there

cregg will never be a prolific scorer in fairness, just like grehan wasn't when he played up forward, cregg was terrific at half back in the two games against wexford, was very surprised when they changed that against meath, playing gary cox in that position??
