I want an Alfa GT..... so 1.9JTD or 2.0JTS???

Ok all,

My original plan was to get a Holden Manaro, and that didnt work out, which is prob for the best as im moving to the south again, so cant afford the whopping tax bill.

Now im after an alfa GT.

Ive been looking at either a 1.9JTD or 2.0JTS.

Ive been driving diesel saloons for the last few years, current motor a honda accord (dont ask) and now i want somthing fun and sporty but looks the mutts nuts.

This in mind, ive been leaning towards the 2.0JTS, but there doesnt seems to be many out there at the moment, but the place is awash with 1.9JTD adverts.

Ive been reading a few threads
http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-147-156-and-gt...

Now there isnt many Alfa/Fiat showrooms about, plus there arnt much in the way of alfa specialists about.

With all this factored in, which would be best between the diesel and petrol (no V6 unfortunatly )

Cheers
-V-

A purist would say it is a sin to have an oil burner under the bonnet of an Alfa Romeo but I'm a bit fan of diesel cars and the 1.9 multi-jet is one of the best in it's class. It would also be cheaper to VRT too if that is a factor in your decision.

BTW check out the prices down here, they really have dropped lately.

The 2.0 JTS will be a rare enough car if you're looking in Ireland, although I think this is absolute sex!: http://www.carzone.ie/search/Alfa-Ro...t?channel=CARS

...didn't they close down last week ?

OP - you need to drive both. I have that 1.9Mjet in my 9-3 and it's a hoot. The JTS, though, would be cheaper, and probably cheaper to service, too.

Have owned both a petrol and diesel GT from new... the JTDm engine'd GT kicked the arse of the petrol equivalent in nearly every respect.
No comparison IMO.

Do it, you won't be dissatisfied

If you've cash, get on a flight and import a diesel blackline from the UK for buttons.

The 2.0JTS is basically the 2.0 twinspark engine with the small spark plug removed from each cylinder to make way for the direct injection. Cam belts carry the same health warning, change every 36k to avoid destruction of your engine. Regular servicing will keep them sweet but neglect one at your peril.
