Advice needed on spacious Jeep?

Hi

Sister in law due in a few months and needs a car or jeep that will fit 2 baby seats and a teenager in the back, yet still have enough room in the boot for a double buggy at least. She believes they will need a jeep of some description because she says people carriers have small boots. They were considering something like a Hyundia? Santa Fe. I said i'd ask for advice because i don't know alot about family cars so any advice is appreciated.

Also, am i right in saying that a jeep will be less comfortable than a car in general ( They have a mondeo and Mazda 6)?

Thanks in advance!

a large 7 seater like a Previa/Espace/C8 will be much more spacious than any jeep.

7 seater jeeps rarely have a large boot too, but many MPVs have, due to clever packaging, some like the Avensis Verso (as an example) have a boot that goes all the way down to the bottom of the car and store the spare wheel in the front. this makes 7 seats and a large boot without having a very long car.

OP, if her kids safety is one of her concerns (and I'm sure it is) then I think she should steer away (excuse the pun) from any jeep/SUV/4x4. Reason: higher centre of gravity = much easier to overturn = you know where this is going.

Alternative suggestion: large relatively affordable economial estate such as the Skodia Octavia or Ford Mondeo Tdci.

or if that's not enough space, an MPV such as Ford C-Max, S-Max or Galaxy (3 different choices there varying in size)

Just my 2 cents

An estate will be no use, 2 child seats AND a teenager in the back?

also, re: SUVs overturning, that's not a valid argunent in thius country, maybe in the US where they have roly-poly suspension and are massive, but here in Ireland, the machines we get are generally more advanced and are in comparison quite safe.

How many accidents in SUVs result in a roll over in Ireland? how many are considerably harder to drive than a large MPV? not too many I'd say.

explanation please?

you do know the Range Rover isn't exactly huge inside? heavy bolstering on the rear seat means child seats end up near the middle of the bench, leaving hardly any room for the teenager who's supposed to go in the middle.

also, what jeeps are actually jeeps? (apart from actual Jeep jeeps)

What's the problem with something like a new model 7 seat Santa Fe, for example?

What we have one!, the proper range rover not the sport... 07 vogue, but basicaly they are the best looking, best off road, most capitable, most spec, and the best for towing. The santa fe, well the name speaks for itself! they are abit cheep, its not a range rover, And you could pick up a good 2003 2002 new shape range rover vogue diesel for around 12000k now!, so really they are not better value! but it would be a commercial! for the 50 euro vrt

Did you even read the original post? 2 child seats, mammy and daddy, and teenager.

you wanna compare like with like, a 2002 Santa fe commercial is worth around 3k. but that's completely beside the point.

best looking isn't on the wish list
off roading isn't mentioned
towing wouldn't be necessary if they could fit everything in the car

the whole point of something like a Santa Fe is that for around 25k you get a nearly new 7 seat jeep with cruise control, climate control, loads of airbags, still under warranty, 2.2 as opposed to 3.0 for tax, not bad to insure, cheap to service and easy to sell on

Great if you're happy with your Range Rover, but it's hard to see what good it would be to the people in question

Fair point! Anyhow, to sort of get back on topic, I rented a Jeep jeep in the States a few weeks ago, and even though it was relatively large (by Irish standards, not American), the boot area was pretty small and you'd probably have to get rid of the last row of seats to get a buggy and extra bits and pieces in. An MPV sounds much more practical.

A full size MPV like Colm said in his first post is the way to go. The middle row will have 3 full size seats to take the 2 baby seats and the teenager, the 2 full size seats in the 3rd row than then be used if and when needed, or not at all if plenty of boot space is needed .

Well for my ten 'pennish' we have a 08 Santa Fe & its very flexible. Good power, comfortable & proper seats at the back unlike some of the MPV types which have seats of only a few inches thick.

The rear seat is split as well, so loads of combinations. I'd definitely go for the leather option if you have kids as they wipe clean, but ask the dealer if you can get the leather done privately through him as Hyundai leather is slightly thin & comes with horrible piping along the sides....
