Sleeping tablets too readily available!

Yeah,Doctors seem to give them out like smarties and then wonder, and complain, when the patient developes a dependence.Agree?

I just got a prescription for some today.

Hope they work! I have a severe case of insomnia at the minute, can't do anything during the day at all!

Agree, people seem to be given them out to readily, my own GP wouldn't though he'd try find out about other factors stress lack of excercise etc.. and if no sign of improvement reccomend a specialist ( in whatever area he suspects is the underlying cause ) Do understand though that some people just expect it all to be solved with pills though and get pretty irate with GP's who wont just give them what they feel they should have.

I was at my wits end before with insomnia and the doctor wouldn't prescribe them.

Depends on the doctor I think.

I couldnt sleep properly for ages and found a few helpful tips....

Dont drink coffee/tea aft 6. Never drink red bull at midnight!

Good alternative to coffee is "Yanoh" a really nice health drink

Swimming will wipe you out - great sport

im on my last batch from my doc! dont think he'll give me anymore i dunno

think it def depends on the doctor and circumstances ive tried everything under the sun for my insomnia - i dont want to take tablets but i need at least one good nites sleep a week!!

but short term insomnia they dish them out no problem! but not long term they'd rather give you anti-depressants to help you sleep! any of you had docs telling you that?! i know they have a drowsy effect but what about all the other side effects!! at least with sleeping tablets the only side effect is sleep!

Disagree, I needed them terribly once but could not get them as my child was too young, even though I asked why couldnt I get them and only take them when my husband was home they still were not prescribed. My doctor at the time preferred the idea of a sleep clinic instead, which I did not want myself so I suffered in silence.
