I actually didn't register that gun either, thanks. I knew Ben had killed him in cold blood though, the guy was on the verge of a panic attack after doing it. I'll miss this until it (hopefully) comes back for a 5th season.

Fairly sure her car is a Dodge Charger, they use those for the black-and-white cop cars as well a lot of the time.

Please tell me Southland is coming back next year! — Luke
ADAM: I can only tell you that your enthusiasm is matched by that of star Michael Cudlitz. "Everyone's hopeful," he says. "I know that the numbers are up from last year and last year we got a pickup. ... I think we're going to get picked up, I'm hoping for more than 10 episodes." As for that potential next season, does Cudlitz think it's a step backward for his character, John Cooper, to resume being a training office? "I think it would be a step backward if I went back to training Ben," he says. "But whatever is going to happen [with a new partner] would completely change the dynamic in the car." http://www.tvguide.com/News/Mega-Buz...s-1045582.aspx |

I find it strange that this show is continually left in the dark about getting another season (ever since the 1st season). Surely they have the enough of the american audience to make it a no brainer?

Season 5 renewal *amost* a done deal!!!!
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118052415 The hardest working cops in the LAPD are on the verge of getting the official call for a fifth season of TNT's "Southland." TNT would not comment but negotiations are nearing an end and a deal is expected to close this week. Sticking point seems to be on how many episodes will be ordered: Warner Bros. TV and exec producers John Wells, Christopher Chulack and Jonathan Lisco are looking for 13 episodes while the network has offered 10, as the show has done for its past two seasons. Season four closed out in March with a ratings uptick from the previous year, with 2.9 million viewers tuning in each week. In the 18-49 demo, "Southland" averaged 1.3 million viewers and 1.4 million in 25-54. Both those numbers were slight increases from a year ago though total viewers were off 2% from 2011. Also, the medium age for the "Southland" audience fell to 48, two years younger than the audience for last season. Ensemble cast includes Michael Cudlitz, Ben McKenzie, Shawn Hatosy and Regina King. Lucy Liu was a guest star for all of last season but is not expected to return. "Southland" bowed as a midseason entry on NBC three years ago, filling the 10 p.m. Thursday slot that had been occupied for years by the Wells-produced "ER." NBC wound up canceling the series as it prepped for the short-lived run of "The Jay Leno Show" as a 10 p.m. weeknight strip. TNT quickly picked up the property, and since then "Southland" has ranked as the cabler's most critically embraced series. |

Spoiler: Question: I’m so excited we get a fifth season of Southland. Any scoops? — Tom Ausiello: When the show returns, a new cop will be walking the beat: Lucero, a Mexican-American native of East L.A. whose POV of the city is colored by his experience of it. Lucero also — if you ask me — should be played by Jay Hernandez.

With Winter well and truly closing in i decided that it was about time to get stuck into some box sets so opted to rewatch both Supernatural and Southland. I really like both shows but they're ones that I fell behind on and never was able to make the time to get caught up. Rewatching season one of Southland and it really holds up. The cast is absolutely fantastic and they all play their characters in a certain laid back manner that really helps sell the show as being more akin to a documentary than a scripted drama. This is helped by the shooting style which relies on a lot of handheld and the use of hidden cameras.
Much like The Unit the show tries to juggle both the work and home lives of the characters and much like The Unit the show is at its best when following them on the beat. There's a certain rawness to the show that helps sell it, it's not gritty or trying to be dark it just captures much the day to day mundanity of the job which makes for surprisingly riveting TV. Reading back over the first few pages of the thread and surprised to see so many people disliked the bleeping of the swear words. It never bothered me when I watched the show as it helped sell the show as being more documentary than scripted. Sure you could have the same show with less offensive language but keys be honest it really helps with the realism. Plus when watched on DVD they're all there clear as day. Spoiler: "Southland": When the show returns in Season 5, we'll meet Dave Mendoza, a cop who Ben befriends on a night out, particularly after Mendoza covers for Ben after things go south with some strippers. Later, when Mendoza gets shot at his home, where he lives with his wife and kids, Ben and the other fellow officers step up to help him out. Things aren't quite what they seem, though, and it turns out that Ben and Mendoza don't have much in common after all.
