I think the problem there is that there would be outrage by gay rights groups. I remember reading when Syed came out that gay rights groups were really pleased at the positive portrayal of homosexuality in Eastenders, etc.
They were especially pleased that they sort of debunked the "pray away the gay" fallacy.

I think it'd be a bit far-fetched for them to now turn around and start saying that you can just decide to go back to women, unless they make it manifestly clear that Syed is bi-sexual (and I think the writers have made it clear that he is not).

I could be wrong though.

thats true. The new characters are just not the same. the moons will never be the mitchells.

6. ethel skinner - they really need a new character like this that could be friends with dot and they would have fierce banter together.
Dot is one of the best characters in it now I think.

Spoiler: As a worried Pat digs out an old newspaper with the headline: "Homeless man identified from car lot fire". Phils worst fears are confirmed when the picture in the paper shows the same boy as the photograph.
As a stunned Janine listens Pat reveals the truth about the car lot fire explaining that Frank paid Phil to start the fire as an insurance scam however they were both unaware that a homeless man had taken refugee in one of the cars and he accidently burnt to death. Insisting she knew nothing about thr photo Janine gets upset that she never knew the truth about the fire and accuses Pat of coming between her and her father.

Yeah, it wasn't very well explained, considering it ties in with a storyline that happened about 15 years ago!
