Last night..................

I'm easily confused by too many directions.

Walking around and looking people in the eye makes you feel confident, walking around making yourself look away makes you feel awkward.

Some great sculptures were made, many depressing, blaming Silvio's music choices for that.

As always I loved loved loved the Monty Python sketches. Would love to see these on stage some night. How about a Monty Python sketch night in a pub sometime as a fundraiser?

The nudge nudge wink wink sketch was brilliant. Well done Silvio and Faceman, expecially Faceman, who knew he could be so funny.

I loved the movie writers sketch. I just played it as Burkwood on steroids, thanks Lisa for directing us.

I'm gonna miss the workshops but it's only 6 weeks and I have a feeling it's still gonna be a busy summer.

This week I learned:

I hate missing workshops, doubly so when it involved Monty Python, and quadruply so when it's the last workshop of the term/season/whatever.

On Monday I learned that I *can* win No Drama games and it only took two years!!! (in yousa face Faceman!)

I also found the kind of improv Laughalot do isnt as hard as I thought it would be, just open your mouth and say the first thing you think of... the obvious stuff is funny.

Making an obvious reference to something which you have a bugbear about and barely is in context can be funny.

Roll on Thursday and Saturday!

This week I learnt:

- Yorkshire people really had it tought back in the day

- You need to make sure everyone else is reading the stage directions the same way you are (I spent ages fighting over a chair while everyone else had stopped)

Thought I'd "resurrect" this thread after the six week break.

This week I learned:

- Getting "stuck" on stage - i.e. no movement by anyone and the pitfalls that can create.

- Some people are really impatient when cooking popcorn....

- I thought the "trigger" point of the status's being changed (.i.e. in the job interview bit) worked very well and it's something I hope that is brought up again in a future workshop.

I really thought this was an excellent workshop because I learned:

1. You dont have to be super imaginitive to improvise a scene you just listen to the person before you and what they've said and go with that...
2. That if you get stuck.... revise your scene.... think of why you are there and then recall the information to make it fit
3. That PiecesofEight never ever seems to loose his passion for drama
4. That the workshop really worked because people accepted what PofE was doing.... even when they felt awkward about it
5. That knowing why you are doing an exercise, hearing the theoretical foundations behind it and what you are supposed to get out of it really makes you learn something about yourself as a person. How we still have 'emotional armour' on (not my phrase) and that we need to stop caring about what other people might think and not be so inhibited!
6. I loved the fact that Flamed Diving wasn't able to walk into the exercise and had to redo it 3 times... but he got it eventually and everyone totally respected it! (all 30? people!).

I learned that I should pay more attention to when no drama is restarting

Lots.

but more specifically:

I learned people hate the smell of lots of things I like and vice versa!

Charlotte has a schoolteachery clap!

That outside hall is cold in your bare feet.

Its amazing how much fun those sound only plays are.

I also stuck my head in to see behind the scenes at the auditions, very impressed with how organised and official it all was. love it!

Great workshop, one of my favourites from a purist drama perspective.

I learnt:

- i hate feet more than even now and some of you have hairy toes
- blind audiences was alot of fun and not as easy as it sounds. I particularly liked conception to birth piece!
- eskimo kissing while blind is one of the most frightening experiences I have ever had. But not as frightening as it was for Alan!

Kudos to Charlotte for putting together an excellent workshop at the last moment to accommodate the audition schedule!

(we'll talk about that singing game another time! )
