In November, we assisted Take Aim magazine in running the much anticipated Take Aim Cup at Irelands newest airsoft site, Moyvalley Adventure Zone. The site is amazing and promises to be a huge attraction to airsofters everywhere, particularly the cqb area. The competition was won by Kosa in a hotly contested battle in the final on the Sunday evening.

We also filled the remaining positions on the committee that hadn’t been filled at the agm.
Enrico Pobre has been appointed the to position of treasurer. Enrico is a past president of FRAG and is one of the most respected members of the philipino airsoft community.
Declan Duffy has been appointed to the position of secretary. Declan was very active with IASRA prior to this and held the position of chairman. Declan has a wealth of experience and ability to bring to the table and he will be a huge asset to the IAA.

In December we saw a lot of queries regarding the upcoming personal importation ban of RIFs, due to the fact that the original suggested implementation date was Jan 1 2010. This date came and went with no ban implemented. We are currently in contact with the DoJ, and as soon as we get further information, we will pass it on to you.
We also operated a mass sign-up day in conjunction with MIA and we got an extra 50 members who patiently queued and signed up. This was an interesting experience as it allowed us to meet and talk with prospective members before they signed up. We hope to do something similar again in the future.
Around this time we also found out that PJT Insurance had ceased trading. This was a concern as the previous committee had negotiated preferential insurance rates for affiliates through PJT. We contacted all affiliates and advised them of the situation and also how to check that their insurance policies were still valid. The good news is that no affiliated sites were operating uninsured.
We are currently negotiating with two seperate brokers to see where we can get best value for our affiliates and also our members. As soon as negotiations conclude, we will let you know.
January was a quiet month, and unfortunately we saw the warehouse close its doors for good. The guys are already working on their next venture, and from the initial photos, it looks like its going to be a very popular site.
At present, we are working with two prospective new sites who wish to open up for business and we are actively assisting them in any way we can.
This time of year is always challenging as we don’t get as many players out due to weather etc. but we are encouraged to see that we will have even more affiliates come onboard over the coming weeks.
As always, we can be contacted by email at info@irishairsoft.ie

IAA update 15/11/2010

Post on behalf of IAA chairman.
Quote:
We are delighted to announce that we have been asked to submit nominations for the national volunteer in sports awards for 2010. This invitation reinforces our commitment to promoting the sport of airsoft in Ireland while allowing us to recognise the valued contributions of those in our community who willingly give up their free time for the benefit of the sport.

This is the third year of the National Awards to Volunteers in Irish Sport, which is an initiative by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport in conjunction with the Federation of Irish Sports, which represents some 68 sports in Ireland. The first awards were presented in 2007 and last year almost 200 volunteers were nominated for the awards.

Members of the public are invited to nominate an individual whose contribution to their club has made a real difference and to give a short citation on the person nominated. From all the nominations received from the public ten winners will be selected to receive an award. An Overall or Lifetime award to honour a volunteer, who has consistently given of their time for a sport, a team, or an event over many years, will also be awarded.

Sarah O’Connor, Executive Director of the Federation of Irish Sports noted the importance of sport in Ireland and complimented the government on their continuing commitment to investing in sport. She said that such commitment was not alone essential for sport in what it paid for but that it was a clear signal to the many volunteers that their commitment was also being recognised

“Sport and sporting success require a combination of vision, finance, dedication and enthusiasm. It is not overstating the case to say that none of the sporting success that Ireland enjoys today would have been achieved if it were not for the volunteers in Irish sport, the unsung heroes and heroines. While today we have many professional coaches and administrators who do a wonderful job the fact is that Irish sport as we know it could not happen without our volunteers,” said O’Connor.

The deadline for the 2010 National Awards to Volunteers in Irish Sport is Tuesday, 30th November. Nominations may be made on our forum ( http://www.irishairsoft.ie/forum/viewforum.php?f=19 ) or by email to info@irishairsoft.ie
Nominations should be in the format of:
Person nominated
Short reason for nomination

I've had a message from acting IAA Chairman Graham Darcy this afternoon to say the IAA AGM which was scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, 08/01/2011) has been postponed for a period between 30 and 60 days. Here's the official statement:

this was a tough and difficult decision to make but after consulting the committee and ordinary members, its been decided to pospone the agm for a period of no less than 30 days and no more than 60 days ,it is hoped that this will act as a cooling down period and allow for cooler head and thinking to prevail in the current tensions within the committee and community
the venue for the agm was cancelled at lunchtime today and all moneys involvded in the venue refunded to the committee,
despite cliams from other sources the committee wont be over turning its decision despite attempts from others to force the matter nor will the committee be at the redcow venue tomorrow,

we the committee will be retaining legal council to advise on the current issues,

The committee wishes to apologise to those who were planning to travel to dublin tomorrow this decison is in the best intrest of the community and the very well being of the association

the committee will not tolerate attempts at intimidation and bulling of members of the association

the committee has requested that our official forums and website be locked through our admins until the committee can regain control over the forums ,

a 2nd statement will be made in the coming days

regards

The Committee

Following on from Saturday's meeting of IAA members, I've been asked to post the following official statement:

There was confusion leading up to this as to whether the AGM was to be held as announced or not, and it was put to the floor for a decision on whether to continue with the meeting as an AGM or not. The decision to continue as an AGM was unanimous
At this meeting, the membership present voted on the committee positions nominated before the deadline as announced on our forums.
The following executive committee positions were filled:

Chairman – vacant
Vice Chairman – Tadhg Scanlan
Secretary – Alan Ciapas
Treasurer – Tommy Keogh
PRO – Richard Smith
National Childrens Officer – vacant

The committee wish to thank all those who attended the AGM, and wish to reassure the membership that all efforts will be made to develop and secure the sport of Airsoft in Ireland in 2011 and we wish to thank the previous committee for their hard work during 2010

Airsoft is featuring on the upcoming Setanta Sports series Yes I Can. This inspirational series, hosted by Mark Pollock, gives four people with disabilities the chance to take on a sporting challenge. Yes I Can airs on Monday 7th of November at 9pm and continues every Monday in November at the same time. Check out the Behind the Scenes here: http://www.youtube.com/user/beactive...66A787411646EA and on beReal TV on facebook.

Update:

EGM Date Change

Dear members,
We must apologise to all. Due to a date counting error on our part, the date for the EGM has been pushed out. The correct date for the EGM will be Saturday the 10th of March 2012. This change of date will bring us back in line with our constitution and allow for nomination and motions for voting.
Thank you to the eagle-eyed members for pointing out this error.
Yours sincerely,
The IAA Committee
