The ISA are carrying out a survey on Self Help Groups. They would be delighted if you could spare a few minutes to complete it. All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Dublin Self Help Group

The Dublin Self Help Group is making some changes...

From October the second meeting of the month which usually takes place on the 3rd Tuesday will now take place on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

On 20th October we will have a 'Presentation Skills' evening. This will allow anyone who may want to practice delivering a presentation to a group of people, it can also be used to practice public speaking.

The meeting will run the same times as the Tuesday meetings but will be held in Room 15 in the Carmichael Centre.

The change of day might allow people to attend who are unable to attend on Tuesdays. We would be grateful if you could let anyone you know who may be interested.

OP, I've deleted your other post. Cross posting is not permitted on boards, so please do not post the same threads on multiple forums in future.

All welcome. www.stammeringireland.ie

The ISA self-help groups provides valuable emotional and social support for people who stutter, in a non-judgemental, relaxed environment. The burden of stuttering can be considerable, and you don't need to carry this alone. Also a great way to make new friends!

Irish Stammering Association is a charitable organisation which provides a nationally recognised voice for people affected by stammering. ISA provides information, encourages self-help groups throughout Ireland, influences policy, raises public awareness and works towards the improvement of early intervention measures for children.

Dublin Open Information day [McGuire Programme]

Hello all,

The McGuire Programme Ireland is holding a free open information afternoon in about two weeks. It will be held on June 9th from 1:30pm in Wynns Hotel, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.

Numerous speakers will take to the floor during the session which will last around an hour or so. Some speakers will recount their own personal speech journey in life, others will give some information about the programme. Everyone is free to attend, from people who stammer to family, friends and partners to speech therapists to people in the community who would like to be more informed.

People who attend will not be asked to speak on the floor or pounced upon for information, however if there are questions they can be put to the floor or you can have a quiet word with one of the speakers afterwards, where there will be light refreshments.

You can find more information about the event on our Facebook event page or on the McGuire Programme website. Information packs will be available at the event.

Cork City - LearningMethods 5-Week Class

Hi all,

I am an Alexander Technique teacher and a “LearningMethods” Apprentice Teacher. I recently worked with a client to help with stuttering, and given our positive results I am now interested in facilitating a 5-week LearningMethods class in Cork City for stuttering.

LearningMethods teaches you the tools to systematically explore your own experiences. By doing so it's possible to find the root cause of an issue with the potential of changing it. Some of the territory we may get in to includes: self-image, confidence, expectation, trying, and possibly exploring the anatomy and function of speech and how we can interfere with it.

The class will be Cork-based, and will be kept small at 4-5 people. Participants will receive weekly 2-hour lessons with continuous online support over 5 weeks. Cost will be €100 per person. I am aiming to begin this in July, though this will depend on the schedule of interested parties.

If you could pass this information to any person or groups who might be interested, I'd appreciate it.

I know some people find it challenging in a group, and I am open to working on a one-to-one basis also.

Thanks,
Andrew Monaghan
