The last retronauts was all about collecting videogames and is well worth a listen. It has two hardcore collectors with about 5000 games each and a former collector that got out of the game!

As for Kingpin, I think at the time I was the only person that thought it was a badly written and badly playing borefest. Never liked it really. I'm guessing the game hasn't aged well either.

€70 for a GAmecube with 1 controller, 1 memory card and 8 games. That's not a particularly "good" deal is it? Not sure what the games are but I'm finding out.

If the games are fairly standard usual non-"rare" stuff then what's a decentish price for such a bundle?

A gamecube isn't really worth anything at all these days.

I would say 20 for the cube (maybe 25 at a push)

I wouldn't pay more than €50 for that lot if they're 8 bog standard games. As you said though, it really all does depend on what they are.

Something doesn't necessarily have to be rare to mean it has value. There are two main criteria, rare and desirable. Both bump up the price.

Many many Nintendo games aren't rare but they fit into the desirable category given how popular they are.

Do you have a list of the games?

No I've just texted the guy for a list of games. A reply came back that he's "in school" and I'm to txt back later. So we'll see how that goes. A Gamecube isn't really on my priority list atm but it's just that I saw an ad in my local shop.

Depends on the list of games. Chances are they'll be multi-format games I already have.

Oh , is there any difference playing games on a GC over a Wii? I've access to a Wii to play games on but it's not my own so I don't have something in my own room to play on. I think I was reading about the Wii's system and that it's basically a suped up Gamecube?

The Wii is just backwards compatible with Gamecube games. Like the way the PS2 was with PS1 games. It's the main reason why Gamecubes are worth nothing! A similar thing happened with PS1s.

I had the first Nightmare Creatures for the PC.

I remember digging it out a few years back and trying to play it on a far more modern system... but it seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the greatly increased clock speed so the game ran in what can only be described as Benny Hill mode.

Many people have this idiotic notion that because something is old, it must be worth money. It's highly annoying. Especially when you really want what they're selling.

For example I've spent the last couple of months trying to get a CIB Shinobi 3. It shouldn't be that rare or expensive. Yet people are looking for stupid amounts.

Always find out the exact worth of a game before buying it. And try and get it for less than that. You'll end up spending an absolute fortune if you don't!

I completely agree, but I guess if you (and presumably others) really want something then it really is worth money..supply and demand and all that!

Plus there's the nostalgia factor: I still have my original NES, the first console I ever owned and the source of too many good memories to count. It's also the only game-related thing that wasn't stolen from my house in a break-in when I was a kid (they took the controllers and wires though!) It's no longer working, is discoloured like crazy and I have 2 other NES consoles in better aesthetic and working condition. But as far as I'm concerned it's more valuable than any other console or game collection that I own, and the only one I can 100% guarantee that I'll never resell in the future.

So maybe there's a sentimental mark-up on those overpriced PlayStations etc.

Yep, that's the dreaded desire factor. Which pushes games like Streets of Rage 3 up to moronic prices! The impulse buyers can go nuts all they want, I'll happily wait for a reasonably priced one.

I'm the same with my Megadrive. It's worth nothing really. But I was really freaking out while Enternow was modding it. I have complete faith in his abilities, it's just that console means a hell of a lot to me. She's my baby! Wouldn't sell her for the world.

The problem with sentimental mark up is your sentiment is unfortunately worth nothing to others. So if you don't price things reasonably they'll just never sell...which maybe, if the item is that sentimental, is what the person really wanted anyway.

I have my "HD MD" since I can rememeber, she sat for years in the attic waiting for me to bring her back to her formar glory and she has surpassed that!

but anyway people charge huge prices for games that arnt worth crap, Shinobi III for example, that games was EVERYWHERE back in the day but becuase its such a good game people think that can charge over €100 ( check ebay right now ) for it. its bullsh1t.

With the likes of the crackers cart i can understand the high price, it literally is a very limited edition thing but with general release games **** sake!

But demand just drives prices up and presicents have been set for all the high price games

Oh so you have HD graphics MD 1? As a matter of interest, does it have the TMSS screen at the start? I'm trying to figure out if all PAL original HD Graphics versions don't have TMSS. Or if I just got lucky with that one from ebay? I remember the original Megadrive I got for Christmas didn't have it. (It broke after a year though )
