Wifi

Hi,

Can you help with this. My UMR arrived during the week. I connected my usb modem, connected my laptop wireless, updated settings in quick guide and got on the net. After a few mins my connection was slow and kept dropping. I connected my laptop via cable and speed seemed fine. However now I cannot seem to connect wireless now at all. At first I couldn't find the network I reset umr and now I can see network but connection fails.
Any ideas.
pwr, wifi and usb lights are on + LAN that I am currently using.

Thanks

WiFi on MacBook Air

Hi Dovado,

I have just acquired a Dovado UMR for use with a Huawei modem supplied by 3 and a MacBook Air on Mac OS 10.5.6. The modem works just fine when connected directly to the computer.

I have gone through the setup procedures outlined in the manual and am able to go online with the dongle in the UMR and an ethernet cable connecting the UMR to the MacBook Air.

However, when I disconnect the ethernet cable, I am completely unable to connect wirelessly, which was my purpose in buying the Dovado UMR in the first place.

Can you tell me what I need to do in order to get the UMR and computer to communicate?

Hi muffo

It looks like your Dovado UMR is working fine - I'm no expert with Macs, but I know that their WiFi is called AirPort and if you click on the Airport icon along the top you should see any WiFi networks in range including the Dovado.

If you're new to wireless networking have a look at:

Wireless Basics

but when they say "You need an Apple Basestation" don't pay any heed as your Dovado is equivalent to your basestation. You may have entered a WEP key on the Dovado which you will need to enter the first time you try to connect with Airport on your Mac.

Regards

Gerry

You can also try upgrading the WLAN driver on your MAC. Many have done that and it did the trick.

I have a Dovado UMR router, I was using it with a 3 usb modem, but now I have broadband so I'm just using the Dovado as a router.

I cant seem to get into the user interface any more, ipconfig tells me the deault gateway is 192.168.100.1 but if I try to log into it the page is just blank and says - Done. I've tried the default ip address for the Dovado 192.168.0.1 but get Network Timeout.

Also the WAN socket doesn't seem to do anything, is it usable?
Thanks.

Hi,

Make sure you have at the very minimum version 2.0 of the firmware loaded on your UMR. Second, it seems like your LAN's IP address might be static. Try setting it back to Dynamic (DHCP). That should do the trick.

Enjoy

It's more handier than one thinks. At first you'll find yourself using it because it's new and unique, and then you'll learn that you can't live without it. It cuts down on PC time, by far. And what's great is, you can do it from anywhere. And I don't mean anywhere* as in "wherever you can get an IP connection!"-type anywhere.

And for those of you with 1-5GB/month, you'll enjoy the SMS notification on how much data you've used up after passing certain intervals.

I can't upgrade the firmware if I cant login to the interface.
My LAN is set to Dynamic. I just tried a hard reset but it made no difference.
Any other ideas?

That seems quite unlikely that you'd get an IP address from such a subnet when using a UMR after a factory reset. Have you tried from another computer?

The factory reset is done after you've held down the RESET button for about 7 seconds and the POWER lamp is done flickering.

I did the factory reset as described in the handbook, held in the reset button for 8 seconds until the power led started flickering. The only change was the wifi light is now on. I can ping 192.168.100.1 can't ping 192.168.0.1 times out.

The router is working fine, I just can't get into the user interface. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

when you go to 192.168.100.1 in web browser what comes on the screen?

Cable Modems are usually 192.168.100.1, but if you have only the Dovado, then that is the address of it.

You do know you can't have more than one routers or modems etc that acts as a DHCP server on the same LAN?

Routers can usually have the DHCP for LAN feature turned on or off. Most ethernet or USB interfaced Modems (no router built in) are usually pass through DHCP, but if there is no WAN (Internet connection) they usually give out one IP on the same subnet as their status/control LAN IP page.
