What's a "weak cross cum shot" in footballing terms?

Was reading the Irish Times online:
http://www.ireland.com/sports/soccer...240539726.html

"Benzema got away and released Clerc but the move broke down when he delivered a weak cross cum shot into the area."

I lol'd - unless this is a footballing term?

It is indeed a football term, you dirty boy. As in a cross that could be a shot or vice versa. Filth, I tells ya

Its sorta....

He went to cross the ball but instead it ended up as a weak shot on goal instead of a cross.

Oh the Times were using Latin... volenti non fit injuria/compos mentis sort of stuff.

Not really a footballing term then but rather a strange (in my opinion) decision to use one of the Classic languages.

Here's the Latin definition of "cum" by the way:

Why were you reading the Ancient Roman version?

Because the word cum in that context originates from Latin:
http://www.google.ie/search?q=define...ient=firefox-a

edit: oh, do you mean reading the Ancient Roman version of the Irish Times? Nope - just the normal online one...

Are you new to football, then? It's as old a football term as "obviously".

Nope - just in my 10+ years of reading newspapers have never come across the term (nor have I heard it being used, nothing came up on a Google search either).

...ah I see Google had taken out the word "cum" when searching.

Plenty of other people confused about this term (is it an archaic term?)

They use 'cum' to replace 'slash' in a bodily-function mixup akin to the way they use 'ironically' to mean 'coincidentally'.

Also, in house/apartment rental/sales they often write:

'dining room cum kitchen'

An American friend remarked to me 'WTF is a cum kitchen?! Do they even know what cum is?

Just say 'Kordell Stewart' to them. If they look confused, follow up by saying 'slash'.

For the Yanks on board who don't know what 'cum' is.
