DVD is restricted to 576p over component.Dont think hd-dvd is restricted whatsoever.Anyway the best way of getting around this is by connecting the 360 using the vga cable(For the ones without hdmi of course).Vga is far superior than component so it'll look sharper for games as well as dvds

eg Dark Sector is 720 on Sony and 1080 on Microsoft??? Anyways all this talk of whether you'll notice the difference in resolution is a little redundant, as the human eye can barely notice a difference on a 32inch, if at all. Besides, contrast ratio and response times are the most important factors in deciding on a panel. No sense on focusing on high-res, when the quality could suffer. I watched Cars on a Panasonic plasma with 1024 x 768 resolution and it far outclassed its higher-res competitors due to fast response, powerful but controlled colour rendition, and excellent black levels. So far USA broadcasts 1080i on its television stations, there's not enough bandwidth to carry a higher signal. Europe favours 720p. Both have their merits. Sky offers both, although I've read that they upscale alot of content. Also, their charges are prohibitive. So full hd is overrated and undersupported. Focus on the quality first and save yourself a few pennies or use them to buy a 5.1 system---far more important methinks! |
