DVD is restricted to 576p over component.Dont think hd-dvd is restricted whatsoever.Anyway the best way of getting around this is by connecting the 360 using the vga cable(For the ones without hdmi of course).Vga is far superior than component so it'll look sharper for games as well as dvds

Component:

* HD DVD - 1080i resolution maximum, limited by AACS
* DVD - Upscaled to 480p maximum, limited by CSS
* Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future

480p on the NTSC models as their resolution is lower on their DVDs. PAL DVDs are output at 576p. I can tell you that the DVD playback through Component is pretty shoddy thanks to that damned restriction. Switched over the PS3 and enjoyed my movies in all their upscaled-to-1080 glory!

Yeah although to further complicate matters, the majority of games on both the XBOX360 and PS3 have native resolutions of 720p, and the consoles just upscale. All XBOX360 games list 1080p on the back but this is a semi-lie---compare them to the PS3 counterparts and note the lack to 1080p there...

eg Dark Sector is 720 on Sony and 1080 on Microsoft???

Anyways all this talk of whether you'll notice the difference in resolution is a little redundant, as the human eye can barely notice a difference on a 32inch, if at all. Besides, contrast ratio and response times are the most important factors in deciding on a panel. No sense on focusing on high-res, when the quality could suffer. I watched Cars on a Panasonic plasma with 1024 x 768 resolution and it far outclassed its higher-res competitors due to fast response, powerful but controlled colour rendition, and excellent black levels.

So far USA broadcasts 1080i on its television stations, there's not enough bandwidth to carry a higher signal. Europe favours 720p. Both have their merits. Sky offers both, although I've read that they upscale alot of content. Also, their charges are prohibitive.

So full hd is overrated and undersupported. Focus on the quality first and save yourself a few pennies or use them to buy a 5.1 system---far more important methinks!

No, i dont think so.Its an old model for a start and including delivery its more like 880e.The black level would be well off the current pace as well. Also, thheres no mention on the pixmania link of 24fps playback for bluray which, IMO, is crucial for a 1080p 'set.It may still have it, though.Anyway, i know a few places online where you'l get a better tv than this for less and far superior sets for not much more.Richersounds.com for a start and there are a few UK sites that will deliver over here
