long distance dog races.

I dont particularly like Grehound racing, Ive always felt that the margain for error was too low (i.e. one bump on the first corner and your dog is done) for it to be a useful betting proposition.

However on that Greyhound show they have on TG4, they showed clips of races run recently over 1000m or such. There was a big race in Harlods Cross recently, according to said Telly.

How common are these?
How frequently are they run? They're something I could see myself getting into.
