I blame this forum for my GAS

Back in 1994 when I got my first 2 pay cheques I ran straight into Goodwins and bought the guitar on the left - its a Gordon Smith GS 1.60. At the time it was £300, so it was sort of half way between the cheap guitars and the good but damn expensive guitars. Quality wise it just seemed amazing for the price. Otherwise nothing too exciting - one coil tapped humbucker - lovely fretboard and neck and its nice and light...

Fast forward some 13 years. I still have the GS 1.60 - a bit of fret wear, needs some cosmetic work and the pickup needs a bit of attention - but otherwise no complaints. Wouldn't be the most exciting guitar - but I wouldn't be the most exciting guitar player - so we're well matched

Then I find myself lurking in here more and more - and people showing pictures of some beautiful and some not so beautiful (subject to taste) guitars and what happens (in the space of 6 months)...

Guitar 2 for those that don't know (the one in the middle) is a Burns Brian May signature guitar. Happened to walk into a guitar shop in town, saw the May machine second hand, perfect condition - had to buy it. Amazing sustain, similar neck to the GS, fatter body, crazy amount of sounds you can get from the thing, a fair bit heavier. It is a korean guitar and there are a couple of quality issues IMO - but hey its a fireplace

and Guitar 3 (on the right) which arrived from ebay yesterday is a GS2.60 tobacco sunburst - 2x coil tapped humbuckers. Fair amount of cosmetic damage to it (as was stated in the auction), but it plays perfectly - frets are in perfect condition (I reckon its a 92 model so I don't think it got all the much playing - last guy who owned it said he had it for 10 years and played mostly slide). Just as nice to play as the GS1 but with much better tone and far more dynamic, and for the sake of some dings and dents and a bit of a scrap on the front - people just weren't really interested and I got it at a great price

So I feel its my duty to perpetuate the syndrome... here's another picture or two...

Nice.

Although it's true, hang around here long enough, and you'll get infected with our very expensive disease. The only cure, is more cowbell...

Very nice guitars!
I wonder how many you'll have this time next year?

Thanks, and hopefully no more than 3. I think that's my itch scratched - for the time being

Hehehe!

You know, it's not a Petrucci, but there is a Musicman Axis up on chrisguitars.com for a stonking $1099. Take a look here.

Thanks feylya

I've been GASing over eggles since back in the day when you could actually buy them in the shops. Last year a second hand Berlin Pro (re)appeared in one of the shops but it was a bit overpriced afair, but that put it back in my mind. Having got the GS2 on ebay I've been hovering around there and getting the inside track on the peg forums. I wouldn't be surprised if a few more eggles eventually made their way to me
