Beta-alanine
A fairly recent addition to the performance supplement arsenal for mixed sports is beta-alanine. Acting as a buffer of acidosis in skeletal muscle, beta-alanine can improve certain types of performance, especially in activities that rely heavily on anaerobic metabolism (e.g. maximal efforts lasting roughly 30-60 seconds). At least one study found that beta-alanine plus creatine improved weight room gains; mixed sports athletes looking to increase strength/power or muscle mass may want to consider beta-alanine.
The biggest drawback to beta-alanine is the required dosing schedule which is 400-800 mg of powder 4 times per day (for a total dose of 1.6-3.2 grams per day). In some people, beta-alanine can cause a tingling/itching/flushing sensation. This isn’t dangerous, simply irritating. And the dose must be split in this fashion for optimal effects.

I'll try to find the study but one I read before showed significant gains for a group using Beta-Alanine in comparison to the control group.

Edit:
Quote:
One study in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition reported that male subjects following a 6-week HIIT program (done for 15 minutes per day at a ratio of 2:1 for exercise-to-rest, 3 days per week) while supplementing with beta-alanine gained more than 2 pounds of muscle—despite no weightlifting during the program.
That's a summary of the study. Clearly a very useful supplement considering 2 Ibs of gains with no weightlifting involved.

It's neither testosterone nor HGH. That's just marketing hype.
I've googled the ingredients and its actually creatine and glutamine, along with two herbal ingredients. One which has been shown to reduce muscle fatigue, the other is supposed to inhibit estrogen - but studies show it doesn't work.

You'd be better off taking creatine, jacked etc and saving a few quid.

Elvery's are doing a mix and match - buy 1 get a 2nd at half price on all supplements.

Elvery's are overpriced anyway so it doesn't really save a lot but the mix and match makes it an interesting offer.

General question that I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with....

What is generally recognised as the best whey protein on the market at the moment?

When I was previously taking protein I was always told to stick with Nutrition X/Optimum Nutrition - is this still the case?

ON Gold Standard Whey would be regarded as the best. Personally though Whey is Whey, as long as it's good quality (Which any major brand is) it will do the same job. I'll try to find the link but a guy on Reddit sampled a load of different protein product samples to see if they're content matched what the label was claiming. Optimum Nutrition and MyProtein performed best.

Avoid brands that are ridiculously overpriced such as MaxiMuscle.

Gaspari have posted a third party COA verifying their label claims. Reflex posted on muscletalk saying the tests are worthless due to method and they implied that they had tested myofusion and it matched label claims.

When you think of it, it was easy to troll. Send half scoop of powder and half a scoop of nesquik. Company fails test.

Yeah I find myofusion the same. Tastes okay but feel bit of a dodgy tummy afterwards. I think I'm going to stick to isolate or a whey blend with isolate as main ingredient

Hey,
Just started getting back into the gym over the summer, go about 6 days a week and do about 90 minutes of weights each session, i'm 6ft and weight about 150 pounds. Before and after each session I drink 300 ml of whey protein
http://images.productserve.com/previ...7/21593304.jpg

Im trying to bulk up (just get a bit stronger and have a bit more weight but nothing major) was thinking of using mass gaining proteins but the idea of having about a 700 kcal in a single shake is a bit much. http://www.nutritionxstore.ie/muscle...ite-3kg-6-6lbs

Should I just eat more proteins during the day and avoid the mass gaining shakes?
Thanks.
