Buying clothes online...duty question..

I was just on a website there and saw a nice jumper for $56 which is a steal compared to what it would be over here.
My question, What way are customs over about small things like that? I heard that anything under around €120 they aren't too bothered with.If I keep the price below around €100 and stay away from FedEx will I just be paying for the item and its shipping?

Has anyone ordered small items like that online from the States?

Thanks,
Hakko

Has to be labeled as a gift under 40 euro,
anything else customs will bend you over and bugger you silly!

even if it's labelled as a gift you can still get stung.

it's just luck of the draw.

you've a higher chance of not getting stung if the package is marked as a gift and comes in by USPS (standard US mail) and An Post

Also, bear in mind that the €40 limit includes the shipping costs. From the states, by courier, shipping will be up to US$28 for a t-shirt packed in a box. I was sent a present from the US, a t-shirt in a box (t-shirt cost $21) and with shipping the total came to $49. I then got a bill for €34.50 for duty about 2 months later. So annoying.

If you can have something sent by normal post you've a much better chance of getting away without having to pay duty and tax. I bought a suit for $210 and then shipped it in two different padded envelopes (very big ones) and posted it and it came through fine. Saved me over €500.

Just in case you are getting "new" designer clothes on ebay, be aware that some might be fake!

I've gotten away with $65 and under (not including delivery). So I try and keep it under that level. Anything above that, you get stung
