*CHARTER - Updated 16/04/08*

Hello! Welcome to the lovely Food and Drink forum.

Before you post your thread, look up. You will see several sub-forums. One may be better suited to your needs.

Beer/Wine/Spirits - Booze related forum. You must be 18 to post there, and please read the charter before posting. We do not support binge drinking.

Cake & Pie All your baking related discussion goes here

Coffee & Tea - Discussions on the finer points of hot beverages.

Cooking/Recipes - Specific discussion about cooking itself. Want to know why your recipe went wrong/ how to make something/ wondering what others like to eat? Ask here.

Snacks/Sweets - for any advice on what our Mammys would term "rubbish", but we consider ambrosia.

Vegan/Vegetarian - Self-explanatory. Come here for recipes, advice, support.

This main forum will cover the rest. For example, restaurant reviews, and ingredient sourcing.

There are some simple rules:

Food Safety - We absolutely do not allow threads about food safety. If you’re not sure if your chicken is still edible, then we cannot help you. Threads started will be immediately closed. We (the Food & Drink mods) feel it is unsafe for posters to accept advice from random people on the internet about food & drink products which they cannot see, smell, touch. Furthermore they would not know the conditions that the item had been stored by either the retailer or consumer. If you cannot tell if the food is safe to eat, then how would you think that someone at the end of an internet connection would be in a better position to decide if it was safe? As they say in professional kitchens – “When in doubt, throw it out”. If any advice was given & subsequently taken after which you or another poster became ill - it would potentially leave boards.ie liable. It is our duty as moderators of these fora to protect boards.ie from this happening.

NO PORN - will be deleted and user banned.

NO ADVERTISING - contact an admin if you wish to ply your wares. Site wide ban if not.

NO SPAM - we are not interested in your revolutionary weight loss tablets. This includes blog links! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SPAM YOUR BLOG!

NO FLAMING - heated discussion is fine, but no personal insults please. A warning will be issued if a discussion is getting out of hand. If the offense is repeated the user will recieve a ban. Ban length subject to crime committed/how repentent they are in pm.

Do not argue with moderator actions on-thread. If you disagree with a moderator action, take it up via PM. Arguing on-thread can lead to an infraction or a ban.

Please note: This is not the "Dublin City Food & Drink" forum.
If you wish to know where to find the best sandwich, burger, head of lettuce, tin of sardines or restaurant before the cinema on a Tuesday night - please post in the Dublin City forum.

This forum is used by foodies from all over Ireland & far off lands also. If your query is location-specific - try the relevant Region forum as the locals will more often than not be able to give you quicker & better advice.

That said, if you are looking for a very specific food or drink item that only foodies may know or be able to advise you about - feel free to post here.

Please think who would be better able to advise you before you post...

Where can I get a good sandwich in Dublin/Bantry/Westport? = Dublin City/Cork County/Mayo
Where can I get Harissa Paste in Dublin/Bantry/Westport? = Probably here

Thanks,

tHB
