that's sweet ! Very few cars suit white-wall tyres, but they look right on this one.
Have you see the similar Merc out in Killiney at the top of Coliemore road ? Can't remember if it's silver, or light met-blue, or white. The car sits out on the street, seems to be used in Summer but kept mostly under a cover the rest of the year - looks great in Summer, but looks well worn in Winter (bumpers get rusty/pitted). Got to hand it to the guy for using it rather than smothering it away in cotton wool. |

Yes the car currently wears whitewalls all round. I think they make the diameter of the wheel/tyre combo look bigger whilst retaining the period look. The intention is to fit the correct wheels and body colour hub caps (in my attic) back onto the car next summer together with the whitewalls !
That should look very nice ! I will still use the alloys, which were only available from 1968 onwards, together with the blackwall tyres, for mundane regular use ! The logic is that with the alloys the opertunists can only nick a centre cap whilst the correct combo would allow possible theft of the centre caps x 4 and the beauty rings x4, totalling about € 500 ! As for the one in Killiney, I am in touch with plenty of other owners and that car sounds familiar, but I dont really know it ! |

I used to have a 250SL back in 2001, a lovely car to drive and very advanced for their age. Power steering and disc brakes made it feel like a modern car to drive. Chrome bits and panels are extreamly expensive though. Sorry about the picture quality...pre digital camera.

Nice car Junkyard !
Do you know where it is now ?? Mine didn't have power steering, its an early one, but I have it half retro fitted now. Still need to overhaul the box itself, the rest is already on the car ! The list goes on and on and on....................... |

It was a nice car alright MecMad, I sold it to a man in Limerick who had a large collection of classic cars and I think he still has it. As with all classic cars they always need something to be done, and then something else etc., its a neverending story but its a great hobby.
