03/05/04 - Pick up game - Tonight - games1.iol.ie

Ok folks, Rev has kindly sorted out my admin rights on the games1.iol.ie UT2K4 server.

So, as promised in a previous thread, i'm going to be organising pick up games on a regular basis starting today.
I know it's short notice but if we can get a few people to play tonight i'll be happy.
I'll be on the server from 9.30pm onwards tonight.
We'll start out with Onslaught tonight.

If you're interested in playing tonight post here and let me know.
Include your in-game nick as well, please.

At the moment it's only standard maps on the server.
I'm sure it won't be a big hassle to put custom maps on the server, but i'm not going to bother Rev with that until there's enough interest being shown.

I won't lock the server tonight unless enough people reply here to fill the server.
The password will be posted here, if one is needed.

The aim of these pick up games is basically to promote a better standard of play than that found on an ordinary public server.

So i'm looking for good team work or at least at effort at good team work.
You'll be playing with new people so i don't expect clan-like level of play but try and work together.
Most importantly this should be fun.

New players are more than welcome.
If you're new to the game, this'll be a good place to learn.

Ok, so just to re-iterate i'll be on the server: games1.iol.ie from 9.30pm onwards.
My nick is KillBOT ( imaginative or what? ).
If you have irc go to #games1 on quakenet.

Any questions or suggestions, post them here too.

Later,

Killian

Is that games1 server running on a weird port or something? I still can't see the server when i add it to favourites in the in-game server browser.

Yeah, i can't see the server either in the in-game browser.
But if you add it to favourites it shows up as unknown server and you can still join it.
It shows up in All Seeing Eye as well, if you use that.

Yep, I'll certainly aim to be there. Relatively new to the 2K3/2K4 style, and the team play, so go easy on me!

In-game nick same as here.

I'll try to be there. Can't guarantee it though.

I'd like to see more regular use of the IOL servers. My ping is flippin' fantastic on them.

Never played a pick up, but I'd be interested. Maybe the teams should use teamspeak to promote some kind of organisation? One for blue, one for red? chatterbox.iol.ie has always been good.

Nick is (wait for it....)......Khannie.

To Adeptus Titanicus:

I was a noob earlier today.....a pickup game is just (from what I understand) a time / date organised game. It's a bit more serious than a normal game, but not quite up to clan level.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone interested in using teamspeak?

Thanks guys. I was wondering was it some sort of Clan "Pick-up"/trial.

Re Teamspeak, do you need to use this as 2K4 comes with voice comms built in? I've never used either teamspeak or the built-in (apart from listening to the chaps in the Fatherland) so I've no idea how it compares to the built-in comms, so I could be talking shíte.

The quality on teamspeak is very good although I must admit I've never used the in game voice. I always use TS when I'm playing with my friends. It allows you to chat while you're loading levels etc.

You can also set it to be voice activated (which is better than key fumbling methinks).

cpu usage is good (low) too.

I'll set up a channel on chatterbox.iol.ie called PUG (pick up game), password is: iolgame
