Only????? That was a huge challenge tbf. I "achieved" one third of your total.. :o

Going to give it a blast - probably more do-able than the cllimbing challenge (for me, anyway:))

I see you can't count turbo miles towards the total.

Under 5 minutes is my main goal for next year life.

I have a plan. It involves giving up the beer, crisps, cakes, sweets for 3 months, a sh1tload of intervals, a paceman and a 80mph tailwind.

I can now retire from cycling. Anyone want a bike?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

    ................and a 80mph tailwind.

Well, your wish was granted today anyways !!!

On that note, I expect to see a few KOM or QOM today, esp in an E-W direction.

Imagine what I could have done if I didn't have the beer and crisps last night!

The wind is pure northerly at the moment at all but 4 reporting stations where it is a nor-easter. So N-to-S segments are definitely the order of the day!

    NE wind my arse.

The wind today is coming from everywhere.

    Just back from a cycle.
Kenmare to Kilgarvan - Loo Bridge. Head wind (traveling N - NE).
County bounds to Ballyvourney. Side wind fromthe North.
Mullaghanish head and side wind from N/NW.
Stumbled on the descent as I was blown from the west.

Road to Macroom - side wind from East.

Renanaree to Mointh of the Glen (traveling south wide head wind).
Mouth of Glen to Top of Coum to Morleys Bridge - block headwind coming from the west.
Morleys Bridge to Kenmare - westerly side wind.

Kenmare to my house 4km up Molls Gap road - headwind from the west.

The general tendency of the wind today is from the north. But there are westerly and easterly gusts.

    Several descents today were in the 21 & 24 sprocket - and I descended N S E and W today.

Give me incessant rain and cold over this. A 5 hour interval session. I thought it would never end.

My average speed on one descent was 22km.

Yeah, especially in the kind of terrain you were in! Chapeau for taking that on today!

Bit disappointed I'm only in 2nd place on this segment

Now if I could break the sound barrier I should hopefully regain the KOM

@fran83, you should be able to join up via the club page, assuming you're already registered on Strava

Strava seems to have difficulty with looping segments. While it's registering the distance correctly - in this case 15.4km for the number of laps being done - when someone does a single lap, Strava is logging that as a completion of the entire segment. So in this case the fastest guy has done a single lap (around 400m) in 54 seconds, but strava is recording that as having completed the entire segment of 15.4km in 54 seconds. That's 285 m/s or 1,024km/h.

I've had what I presume is a complete stranger from the other side of the world recently started following me, and giving me kudos for various rides.

I can't think of any link (he has followed a couple of other Irish-based riders), but it's prompting me to go and spook-out some obscure riders from the likes of Outer Mongolia by following them and giving them kudos:)

(in fact, I'm going to follow the first Outer-Mongolian rider I can find if there are any - if not, I guess it will have to be someone from somewhere like Laios)

I see Jean-Claude (aka Laurens) Ten Dam is joined up to Strava.
Look at his La Doyenne (LBL) file, and all those big VAM numbers  (kudos)
Note: he finished 63rd, 5min39sec behind Iglinsky.

I think his heart rate numbers are mad.

Half his race was in zone 2, and only a little time in zone 4.

His climb up La Redoute near the end of the race (1.5km @ 9.7%) was square in the middle of zone3 (159bpm), yet his VAM for that was 1672 and 370 watts.

    Impressive stuff.

I think its great to be able to see these details for pro riders. You can check out various other pro's by looking at his following list.
