She has no plan's on retiring and is weighing up whether to stay Amateur or to go Pro, If she got a big enough offer to go pro I believe she may do that, as things stand now her father wants her to quit but she does not want that and she is dead right as she is in the oeak of her sporting life and loves it

With her popularity right now she could easily fill out the point 2-3 times within the next year so I think she may get a considerable offer to go pro and take the place that Bernard Dunne left behind..

Game, set and match to BunShopVoyeur. I'm afraid Katie's view of MMA is like a lot of outher people who know little about BJJ or Wrestling - "I don’t think it’s as exciting as boxing. There’s a lot of wrestling on the ground in MMA, so I don’t think it’s as good to watch. "

Nothing wrong with that view, we're from a country that looking at wrestling is strange and looks funny unless your involved in it-That is changing but what people get off on is individual, just like some MMA fans wont like pure Boxing

In reality if Katie did change over and got good wrestling training there would be a good chance she could be a great fighter in MMA, Expecting it as a definite is foolhardy. strikers,

Lot's of Judo folk would not be able to move over too, like grappling is foreign to strikers, Striking is foreign to Grapplers, and Judo to me and the engagement range is similar to Boxing where the like of BJJ and Freestyle wrestling tend to bypass that area quickly.

For example there is nothing to say lisa Kearney could do well in MMA

In all fairness I think Katie with just a few months training would be an absolute nightmare to take down.
She's so quick on her feet and fast. Some boxers are p1ss easy to get in on and get a take down. Others not so much just from having a certain style.
But as its been said its not her aim. So why would she?
Id rather use this as a talking point for what olympians people think will/could make the change over. I know MMA is still facing oppositiuon in france but the Teddy "Bear" chap from France that took the gold in Judo could be an absolute beast in the cage. Definitelty one of the most impressive physiques in heavyweight judo.

Ireland has produced a world champion female boxer. Ireland has a long tradition of producing great boxers, going right back to Dan Donnelly* in the early 1800's. So we have plenty of tradition and experience on our side when it comes to boxing.

Not taking away from the fine work done by Andy Ryan, John Kavanagh and many others, but Ireland hasn't exactly set the world ablaze in MMA - yet . Vaguely, we have had 3 or 4 guys compete in the prelims of the UFC, all to get a first round battering. Most of the UK's top fighters have spent considerable time training in America, Bisbing, Ian Freeman and John Hardy even spent a year training in the States before getting on to TUF.

Regardless, Katie Taylor has no interest in MMA.

4 times world champ 5 times euro champ and 4 times eu champ and Olympic champ

We will, with the age of 90% of the clubs in Ireland most are barely old enough to even have Pro fighters, But as a country we're doing alright with the time MMA is running and especially considering Wrestling is even newer here to most.

In 10 years there will be many clubs running 15 years plus and i expect Ireland like in all sports to punch above our weight

I once heard that wrestling was as populiar in Europe, including Ireland of course, as boxing up until the 1920/30's ? If I remember rightly reading somewhere that it wasn't unusual for a boxing gym back then to double up as a wrestling club say, every second night or whatever. It remained populiar in some eastern European countries such as Bulgaria, Romania etc but somehow died out as a competitive sport in Western Europe to be replaced by entertainment wrestling it seems.

I think that for such a small country Ireland has an incredible talent pool of fighters and it's only a matter of time before the world takes note. Considering that the sport is relatively new to this country, the talent shown on some of our cards is top notch.

I think Katie will take a few pro fights, make some money, and then go back to amateur for the rio games.

Considering she's one of the few people Oscar De La Hoya has tweeted about during the olympics it would not be surprising to see her turn pro.

With the hype around her, Golden Boy would love to sign her to a pro contract
