Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Fossil eagle found in Australia

19-08-2011 7:52pm#1It is very complete, and was found among the remains of other, smaller birds. The scientists still don´t know if it is a Wedge-Tailed Eagle (the largest eagle in Australia today), or a prehistoric, previously unknown species.

And here's a wedge-tailed eagle (Aquila audax). Interestingly, since there are no vultures in Australia, this eagle has taken on both the niche of the top aerial predator AND the flying scavenger and is often seen feeding on roadkill.
