Fashion retailer DV8 are opening soon in the Centre. I would think they'll probably take the space vacated by Republic. They offer similar type casual clothing but perhaps with more branded stuff (G Star Raw, Vans, Timberland, Calvin Klein etc). They 're big in Northern Ireland and I've often bought stuff in their Tralee branch when I'm down there so a welcome addition to the centre. Anyone job hunting should check out below!

This is their website to see what they're like.

What's happened to A Wear? Is it gone from everywhere or just the centre?

I was in it in early January and was surprised to see they had only sale stock in, no new stock at all but I thought maybe they were just having a good clear out. Guess not.

I didn't realise it was in receivership. Just googled it there and apparently the stores all closed before Christmas, only 4 were left open, I suppose to clear out as much stock as possible. There was an article in December about re opening more stores but I guess that didn't happen.

I'm surprised at that, any A Wear I was in was always very busy. Amazing how many people running businesses don't know what they're doing.

They kept 9 of them open for awhile according to their website. They were in trouble for a long time and I think they were being run at one point by a company that specialises in saving businesses from closing.

I see planning permission notice has gone up for a temporary ice rink down near the fields by McDonalds from November-january for 3 years

Diesel are opening a new store on July 11th according to the SC website - is it going into where Republic used to be? Don't they have a smaller store downstairs already?

Wasn't that Counter Propaganda though?. Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought there was a Diesel Store somwhere along the row where Schuh is.

Diesel have a small store on the lower level near the pick and mix stand.

counter propaganda went down the swanny and how diesel will have a shop is beyond me, i think they are only a boutique brand , not on the level of a store , especially the size of the unit where republic use to be

Could have sworn diesel I remember buying a luminous orange jacket and it was diesel brand (don't judge me :I ) from there! You could be right though

^ I know it was Club Denim when the centre first opened but it's changed a few times since then so who knows.

I emailed them this morning and they said that they have no plans to open in Blanchardstown at the moment. I had a draft post ready to go on blanchcentrehistory.com (a site that I have not had any time to develop).

    Strange.

Northern Ireland's largest coffee chain (Ground Espresso) is opening a new cafe within the Next outlet over in the Westend Retail Park according to today's Irish Times.

Tbh, I never heard of this chain before now but I think an extra food/drink option in Westend is a welcome addition. Just having Costa (since Starbucks left Borders/New Look) is a bit restrictive. I'm not really factoring in the KFC drive thru as that is not a place I would like to loiter in or relax over a coffee.

Be interesting to see how they fit between starbucks/costa/mcdonalds.

I used to always get costa ,but found it terrible and staff didn't care. Told them the coffee was too weak and she just put another spoon of coffee in,for that price id expect it to be remade.

Starbucks went down hill for me, used to use the loyalty card to get a Frappuccino(with extra shots etc free because of the card), but then found out McDonalds do the same one for half the price.
Also Starbucks staff(more so in the odeon one) haven't a clue about coffee and likely read a menu and throw it into a cup and here you go

Buttlers do the best coffee in the centre, and you get a free chocolate too.

Agreed, I'd go there more often only they have a tiny amount of seating space - they could easily do well in a larger unit!

Yeah it's not great for sitting in but if you just want a take out coffee you can't beat it.
