don't know when Aurora is going to be in GadgetFreakz!
I am seriously considering ordering of pandawill.
but what if I order a dud?
what sort of recourse do I have?
duty on import,if I need to return to China incur duty again when they fix and return it again.
worst case scenario I know but you know the craic.
anyone order one to be delivered to UK and incur duty there?
    slan

Pandawill still have a backlog of orders (at least 90-100) going back to mid-January. Steer clear until the backlog is clear - that's my advice. Otherwise you could be waiting a while.

I ordered on Feb 1st ... I will post back here once mine has shipped. That should help to give you an indication of what your wait may be.

    Hi lads.
What's the story with customs on the Aurora if bought from a Chinese seller.
Just won one on ebay (bit more expensive than Pandawill etc but i heard very bad reviews of Pandawill and the ebay seller seems very reliable/reasonable about returns etc).

    About 145. :pac:
I was scared off Pandawill because of this
Otherwise i would've just gone with them.
I think the tablet is still worth getting even if i pay a bit more.
    I thought customs/VAT wouldn't apply for anything under 150.
Anyone know how customs/VAT etc is calculated for something like this.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/money_and_tax/tax/duties_and_vat/value_added_tax.html

If you buy online or by mail order etc.
    From outside the EU

You can buy goods from outside the EU up to a value of €22 without incurring any VAT charges. Goods up to a value of €150 may be imported without payment of Customs Duty. To avoid these packages being stopped by Customs, the value should be clearly marked on the label. However, VAT and import duty is charged on importations of tobacco, tobacco products, alcoholic product and perfumes even if they cost less than €22. The Revenue Commissioners provide a guide to the reliefs available for imports from non-EC countries.

If your online purchase costs more than €22 you will have to pay VAT. If your online purchase costs more than €150 you will have to pay VAT and Customs Duty. This will be collected by the company that delivers your parcel. The company usually have an administration charge. Methods of delivery and collection differ from company to company, so you should contact them directly for more information.

    I paid 125 sterling with 3 pounds p+p.

I think that puts me over the 150 euro mark.
    Doh!

    I went for this guy.
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260959482442

Shipped within 24 hours too.... allegedly :)

    I'm interested in alternatives too.

Pandawill are a bit of a disaster. Rumours of April shipping are beginning to surface. I think the blame is split between Pandawill and Ainol - Pandawill for their lack of transparency (they won't say how many orders they have, they are very vague about their stock, and they're still taking bloody orders), and Ainol for not being able to meet demand.

you'd pick up a 16g Touchpad for around €170 on adverts,
just got a 32g with case and keyboard for €200. Seems like a good deal:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 55,447 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Pandawill order cancelled. Three weeks was long enough to wait - enough is enough.

    Crossthesea999 (same as above).
Never bought from him before so caveat emptor and all that.
But his feedback is 99.6 (for a few thousand purchases i think).
The buyers in the reviews say he delivers promptly as well. He despatched within 24 hrs.
He states that you can return it within 30 days as well.
As i say, caveat emptor, but i thought fcuk it, it's my first tablet, i just want to see how these things work for 150 quid.
I'll probably have VAT as well- ah fcuk it, i don't care :p

It's still good value when you compare against the more mainstream tablets on the market.

Seems to be a few issues arising with problems with Auroras, problems with the screens seem to be the main issue, black spots when displaying white, white marks when displaying black and gaps between the screen and the casing causing concern also.

Think that's the reason there was a delay with a lot of orders. To improve the build quality.

Hmmm, maybe I should just get an Elf so.

I think the screen on the Aurora is far superior to the Elf, so I think waiting might be the best option.
