OK, so I started a thread called Just desserts and realised I had used desserts instead of deserts. I did some investigating and found this sort of mistake has a name and a definition. Eggcorns turn out to be hilarious. I provide a list lifted from the interweb for your amusement :)

for all intensive purposes instead of for all intents and purposes
just desserts instead of just deserts
old timers' disease instead of Alzheimer's disease
on tenderhooks instead of on tenterhooks
on the spurt of the moment instead of on the spur of the moment
once and a while instead of once in a while
    pot marks instead of pockmarks
preying mantis instead of praying mantis
sore grapes instead of sour grapes
    splashy instead of plashy
tow the line instead of toe the line
wanton to do instead of wont to do

    Apart from you?

But yeah I used to say Play it by year rather then play it by EAR.

    This thread needs a poll.

The options should be "Cake" or "Cake".
