If you disagree, please tell us about the last AGM you attended and what positions were 'open' for election e.g. hon. secretary, hon. treasurer, committee etc. Last edited by coylemj; 04-08-2012 at 18:30. |

If you are on the Northside of Dublin, The Balbriggan Astro Club will be holding a Perseid Meteor Watch, on Sat 11 Aug & Sun 12th August, details of which are on the following links. http://www.balbriggan.info./Balbrigg..._25jul12.shtml and http://www.balbriggan.info./Balbrigg...OBeirnes.shtml and finally http://www.irishastronomy.org/index....temid=40#94609 Last edited by Pat Dunne; 05-08-2012 at 16:22. |

My advice would be to join a club linked to I.F.A.S (the Irish Federation of Astronomical Societies) that is not commercial, seems there are three in Dublin
DCU, The Irish Astronomical Society And the recently formed Balbriggan Astronomy Club which is up and running and are also on shoitebook www.facebook.com/BalbrigganAstronomyClub Quote:

hi folks,
just to add, the South Dublin Astronomical Society is another club in Dublin. The group meets in Gonzaga College in Ranelagh and shares the meetings with the Irish Astronomical Society. SDAS currently has no membership fee and is mostly a loose collection of people affiliated to many other clubs. The meetings are monthly from September to May and there are regular outings to Wicklow along with partnering with the IAS at their Sidewalk Astronomy events during the year at the James Joyce Tower in Sandymount. I've been Chairperson since ... well ... a long time ago and there are no formal AGMs, etc. I would like to introduce a bit more structure but a lot of people like the informality of the SDAS. With a bit more planning the group could form a nice nucleus of people to help out with things. A lot of it has been my fault in being tied up with studies the last few years amongst other things. Hope to get the SDAS on a firmer footing soon so we can do things like get the web page up-to-date. Basically, people are members if they are on my mailing list (send a subscribe note to southdublinastronomy AT gmail DOT com) -- the mails are usually twice a month or more often when there is lots happening. I send out notices like those in my earlier threads (sky notes and events lists). Another group in Dublin with free membership are the Dublin Stargazers Meetup -- see http://www.meetup.com/The-Dublin-Stargazers-Group/ clear skies! John (Flannery) |
