ill be bringing some spares and tools, dunno what yet tho. Ill be having the bike serviced and consumables replaced a couple of weeks before I go. I would imagine that people should check the condition of their brakes? 80+kmph descents will require your stoppers and tyres (not to mention your wits) to be in tip top condition.

Cirque du Litor, the road between Col d'Aubisque and Col du Soulor, you'll be along here on day 2. Very cold up there today, only 6c at Col d'Aubisque.

That's my favourite Public Image Limited song. I will probably be listening to that as I set a tempo up the Tourmalet or Peyresorde.

    @ Velopeleton.
That picture has huge similarities to the Borlin Valley climb from Cork side into Kerry, even down to the sheep and crazy looking dog (obviously the elevation is about 7x greater on the Cirque du Litor.

Next week is my three sportives in four days, mid-summer century on the Thursday, Tour de Burren on the Saturday and I intend on doing the North West 100 on the Sunday as Sligo Rovers are playing at home Saturday night but I might still decide to head down to Cork for the Sunday.

Looking forward to it, I did it last year and enjoyed it. I must remember to charge my lights before hand, it's been a while since I needed them :D I wish there were more mid-week sportives.

Thinking about do this, cycling over via Sally Gap and back the same way after, works out about 250k/4000m. Reckon you'd have to leave Dundrum at 7am.

    Wicklow Peaks

    Anyone up for it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,457 ✭✭✭lennymc

Im racing that day. Should be out sunday in wicklow if anyonefancies it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,457 ✭✭✭lennymc

so this time in 5 weeks we will be a few hours in.

on the gearing front, i did the evil 200 on 39/28 and while i could do it and i set pbs up some hills, i wouldnt like to use that gearing for a week of climbing. Im bring the compact/28.

did astra set up that mailing list? We should start talking about who is bringing what.

Most importantly, we mustn't forget a laptop and internet connection so we can upload to strava!!

At 89.5kg I am more than likely the heaviest person on the trip. However I am fitter than I have been for a while and climbing better than I have ever climbed.
Climbed Cruagh tonight into a headwind faster than I have ever climbed that stretch of road. Did the same on Stocking Lane.

    Only a few things worry me;
    1. The weather. I really hope that we get good weather. By that I mean 25 degrees at the base of climbs and getting progressively cooler as we ascend.
    2. Distance. There are two days that are almost 200km. I have always despised long days in the saddle. My ideal cycle is about five hours. After 7 I get really bored, after 9 I get depressed, any more I lose the will to live.
    3. Gradient. I can do long and shallow or long and medium gradient climbs all day. Steep climbs kill me. I have damaged ligaments on steep climbs, but long steep climbs and mensimply do not get on. There are two climbs in particular worry me. Marie Blanque & Portet Aspet. I don't want to have to get off the bike, but that maybe unavoidable.

82Kg here, might get to 80 before the start. Another one for the worry list,
    4. Pacing - Getting it right for yourself will be important. I would think it's very tempting to push on a bit too hard early on, only to find you've run out of steam for the remaining days.
