Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Hi all 2 queries re the Sperry train: (1) I am aware that the Sperry train is used for detecting rail defects but what is the purpose of the tankers on the train and (2) is it possible to obtain a copy of the train's schedule? Thanks in advance

The tanks & the wagons on which they sit add braking ability to the train. If the train ran with only the Sperry wagon it would not possess sufficient braking force and would be subject to a speed restriction.
