    Who listens to this ****.

    RE - John Murray Show

    Not me.

Not since his píss take of Mickey Harte's refusal to engage with RTÉ.

Whatever ones opinion about the merits or otherwise of Harte's decision at the time, the John Murray Show's treatment of the events was tantamount to bullying on the part of RTÉ and the accompanying music during the piece was exceptionally distasteful.

That Murray allowed his programme to be used as a channel to air the petty grievances of his employer shows a willful lack sound judgement on his behalf.

He was good in his previous role on the business show. But he now seems content to play the clown having been shafted to make room for the prodigal son of George Lee.

Murray is a genuinely decent person and potentially one of the better broadcasters in Montrose.

Bur he lacks the balls to stand up for himself and stamp some of his own editorial authority on his own programme.

Perhaps he's serving his time in the wasteland 9 - 10 slot as others have done before him.

But the longer he plays the clown there, the higher the chance of him being overlooked.

Back to PK - Whats with his obsession with fish this week and who the hell are these kids on the Friday panel?

DID i just hear that girl saying that both her parents were public servants and if there was a 7% cut in pay that would amount to 14% because there are two of them. What kind of maths are they teaching these days? Or is this project maths?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,949 ✭✭✭✭IvyTheTerrible

That young one needs to revise her maths. 7% off one parent and 7% of another is 7% off the family not 14%.

Busy at one of the following locations with microphone in one hand and dog in the other -

    1 - Outside a dole office.
    2 - Outside a courthouse.
    3 - Inside a halting site.

If I was going to any of those places to ask impertinent questions, I would also have a dog with me....a large rothweiller.

But isn't it hard to put your own stamp on a show when you have just an hour? IMO whoever has the 9-10 and 12-1 slots under the current set-up would struggle.
It's "just an hour" five times a week. It should be possible to put your stamp on that. I think the real issue is that the programmes don't have a clear and sufficient brief.
But then I think RTE Radio should be totally revamped to make R1 speech only and 2FM an Irish version of BBCR2 and a natural home for Tubridy, Creedon etc., which would automatically sort out these issues...
I think I would favour R1 being largely speech radio (perhaps there is scope for some specialised programmes with music content). But it's surprising and disappointing that we Irish, a very loquacious people, don't seem to find enough content and interesting talkers to fill the time that is given to them.

where they get em from more like.

i dont recall a big marketing campaign looking for presenters of RTEjr radio or TV .

a nice little gig considering theres fup all jobs going in the economy.

would i be right in suspecting its more of the kids of the lads already there again ?

    :D

Slightly off topic, but as it's been said
Yeah, John Murry's bad alright, but does anyone wake up to Shay "d'ya wanna pick a song" Byrne?
And Darragh "I'd absoluetly love to pick one,Shay Sir" Moloney?
Talk about wanting to bash the radio in at 6.50 am!

Mullen is in bad form this morning.. He must be just after listening to the podcast of his colleague Breda O'Brien on The Marian Finucane Show yesterday..

Two women having a civilised discussion on a women's issue so Ronan Mullen feels obliged to phone in to provide an expert view and tell them where they, and the Master of the Rotunda, are wrong.

What are Mullen's qualifications other than having read the Bible 50 times?

.....is the sort of person who can manage to stop Mary Lou appearing shrill and awkward. Maybe he's Sinn Fein's greatest electoral asset. Surely the pro Lifers can find better spokespeople than him and Breda O'Brien.

Perhaps this is a subtle expression of RTE bias. Give airtime to Breda O'Brien, Ronan Mullen, and their ilk rather than invite pro-life spokespersons who are more temperate in debate.

When will David Quinn turn up?

Interesting that the RTE staff had Opus Dei..... sorry I meant Sen Ronan Mullen on speed dial. :D

He really ruined what was going to be a good slot.

Can we not all just agree at this stage, that the answers to our economic problems will not come from Jack O'Conner or the unions.. I dont think a "socialist" who pulls four times the average industrial wage, paid for by his members who are working class people, has any credibilty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭artful_codger

"the vast bulk of public sector workers earn less than"...

that's the real problem, that there is a vast bulk in the first place.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭artful_codger

He shouldnt be allowed to say that austerity hasnt worked...hasnt worked for who, his members. we have returned to the bond markets, we are more competitive, we are addressing social welfare fraud, and we are tackling the public sector gravy train.

The logic of that Chambers of Commerce reps argument is that you shouldn't tax multi-millionairs at all because they are only a small group .... what about some element of fairness and equity?
