I get the impression they'll have to order it from new to get the spec they want but they are holding out for a second hand auto ... are there any out…

We get them on occasion , IIRC they weren't available in RHD Ducatos , certainly I've only seen LHD Automatic Fiats , in the up to 2006 models . TBH , the Fiat auto is not very nice though .

The 96 is the on the current model tho?

May I ask why a Chausson , specifically?
