Gizmo my little foster for the past while has gone to his forever home today. I'm happy for him but I'm going to miss him like hell:(. He was the happiest little dog ever, got on so well with everybody, human and canine. Here he is with his friend the husky/gsd x.

I've got to take Felix to the vet to have his ear checked tomorrow. When he came to us he had a polyps growing out of his ear. Our wonderful vet got most of it, as it had grown down so far though it's impossible to get it all. Unfortunately it looks like it might be flaring up again. He's such a trooper though despite all the surgeries he's had and we wouldn't be with out him.

I've seen these in a few other forums so I thought I would throw the idea out for us in A&PI! Would anyone be up for a beers night? :P

We tried to do this before, and had a night picked, then a very popular boardsie died suddenly and her funeral was on the same day. So it was sort of forgotten about.

I would be I think. :) Good idea.

Oh no that's really sad :(

But I think it would be a nice idea to all have a night to get drunk and ramble about our fur babies with people who understand :P

Our lovely forum is quite small peeps so while it is a great idea meeting up in theory, i think it was tried before and not very successful. Please correct me if i'm wrong though (Im too tired to search).:o

If I remember correctly, myself and another poster had organised it. There were a few people definitely going and a few maybes. We had anticipated 10 people, which is a pretty small meet up, but not a bad start in my opinion. Then it was left when a friend died. I knew her family from outside boards and I just sort of ignored what was happening here to be honest, so the fact it didn't happen was probably my fault for starting it and not finishing.

I picked up a dog today after nearly hitting him while driving through the town. Half an hour in the rain like a dope squeaking a squeaky chilli and trying to hold my jeans up because I had my belt in a noose ready to grab him.

Happy ending - he was chipped and his owner is on his way to collect him now. :) Delighted!

K cleaned out the car last night and my leads are all lying in the hallway. I only had the chilli because I had called into the pet shop this morning.

He shampooed the seats yesterday evening too and I put a big mucky lab on them this afternoon. He had also removed the seat cover.

I might be in trouble. :pac:

We're just back from bringing Henry on his first socialisation play date. It went really well (apart from when a neighbours wandering akita and him didn't get a long but that's another story). In a way it was a bit sad, you could see he wanted to play with the other dogs but he wasn't sure how, so just ended up barking, it got better though he learned a bit and once is nerves settled a bit he was fine. We're going to try it again soon and work on walking on the lead with one of the other dogs approaching him, as this seems to be where his nervousness/barkiness comes from. Delighted it went well, I thought it was going to be a disaster.

Oh for god sake. There is no course out there in my opinion that prepares you for the reality of training. I don't think you should be allowed to call yourself a trainer with a certain amount of hands on experience too. No matter what courses you've done.

(same goes for every career really, book learning is one thing, applying it in reality is a whole new experience)

As hopefully I will be moving in the next few months, but to a more built up area, I have started working with the dogs to be calm and quiet in the house. Everytime I walk into a room they are in, they need to sit quietly, instead of getting all excited. Most of them are getting it, sit, get a treat. One just can't grasp the concept at all, which is a worry as he is one of my lead dogs and is meant to be clever. The husky/collie cross that does agility is too darn clever, as he keeps coming up to me, sitting and looking at me expectantly :D Its an interesting exercise with 12 dogs are trying to work out exactly what they need to do to get the treat.

If we hold a bit of food in our hand here Tiffi pulls a "look at me, I'm sooo cute" with associated wags and noises, and Oliver will sit then try several of his tricks (offers the paw, tries to high five, dances and sits) to see what he has to do for the treat. It's soo funny sometimes, Toby (cat) sits for treats and Jake (cat) high fives, and lately Mouse (kitten/puppy, she's confused) tries to copy dogs. :)
All due to builders being in for months and having to train dogs to stay where told or leave toolboxes and stuff.

    Agree with Whispered, crate time!

I've only just remembered (triggered by your post) that Coco ate my OHs glasses when she was almost a year old. He walked in and she had a guilty look on her face and the remains were in her bed. I had to take an early lunch and drive him to the optician to get a new pair, then leave early to collect them on the way home for him. Thank God for vision express:D He's since got laser eye surgery so we didn't have a repeat performance.

Well done Peach, Cream and Bailey!

I took the dogs down to the local parade this afternoon. They're excitable at the best of times but they handled hundreds of marching chanting kids, a tractor and several very loud rally cars really well. The only time they almost lost it was when the guide dogs passed, followed by some ponies. I couldn't have done it this time last year because Henry would have been impossible to manage, so I'm really please with how grown up he's become.
