Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Suggestions for cheapish microphone?

    I'm not a singer, I don't take lessons, I'm not in a band. But I do like singing as a bit of a hobby. I want to be able to hear what I actually sound like, I know with a lot of microphones, even great singers will sound like crap. But, as it's only a small hobby, I don't want to spend 500 euro on a microphone set up. Also, I'd like if it was a fairly simple set up, I'd be connecting it into my computer.

    You can get a Sennheiser E834 for less than ninety bucks online, or a Shure SM58 for €109.

    The easiest way is to get a USB mic that will plug directly into your computer. An XLR mic may need to go through a preamp or mixer. You can get adapters for XLR mics, but they don't work with all computers, so a USB mic is the simplest most direct method.

    Get the Blue Yeti ! I've had it for a year and it's perfect. Costs around 100e. Easily in the top 3 best rated mics on the internet for its price range. Its a usb mic which makes it easier to use.

    sm 57 are great and long lasting, an excellent investment...cud try looking on the thomann website or even adverts.ie for a 2nd hand one....

    Yup sm 57/58. Loads of them going second hand also, might be able to get a decent price on classifieds websites.
