Also, RTE1 HD is transmitting in MEPG-4-SD, according to the STB.

I don't know how you find this info, so could you keep us updated on the bandwith used by RTÉ One HD vs RTÉjr as things move on.

Same here on my Panny D25 RTÉ One (HD?) is showing as 1080i 50Hz.

I wonder is the DOG permanently gone from RTÉ One?... it would be brilliant if it is - I have my doubts though.

It's strange to see RTEjr is using more bandwidth than RTE1 HD on Mux 2
RTEjr using 21% of Mux capaticy, RTE1HD using 17%

EIT info now for RTE1, RTEjr and RTE1+1 on Mux 2

No EIT for RTE1, RTEjr and RTE1+1 on Mux 1, so I guess these channels are hidden on Saorview approved certified and Ireland setting TV and STB.

Regardless of what encoder is being used, its the bit rate that dictates what percentage of the Mux is being used by what channel.

Mux 1 was a stat Mux meaning that weight was given to RTE2HD when HD content was being broadcast.

What DVB analyser are you using, Souriau ? Publish the avg bit rates for the channels, if you can.

There is an option to manual change the logical channel numbering on the Samsungs Mike (Source, Menu, Edit My Channels or the like off the top of my head).

    Whic one ? http://www.saorview.ie/product/laurus/

Are these issues all of a sudden ?

Dont even dream of loading Walker firmware onto it. I am not sure that there isnt bootloader protection on these various rebrands.

The box I am enquiring about is the Laurus LR785-XB model.

I cannot upload the teletext, menus or AD up on screen and it hasn't done so for over a year. It is nuts that is has to act up in this manner in which the updates for this equipment seems apparently to be lacking in quantity & quality.

From the text I have quoted in bold above; can I ask (nicely) have you or anyone else here on boards ever attempted to download walker software on this receiver before? If so; Have you any evidence to suggest that it has not worked out at all?

It seems adequate so far that I have emailed Laurus to get somewhere for now. If not; what else can you advise me to do if everything else has failed?

Did a retune on a Lidl Silvercrest TV from Mullaghanish and I noticed that Mux 2 is described as "RTÉNL 1" and Mux 1 as "RTÉNL 2". I wonder if all of RTÉ's services will eventually move over to Mux2/RTÉNL 1 with the other services remaining on Mux1/RTÉNL 2?

Also noticed on various TVs the signal strength of Mux2 is slightly better/higher than Mux1. Tried to retune my Walker PVR this morning but it's not storing any channels from Mux2 and gets a poor signal. The aerial has a masthead amp from analogue days so I'm assuming that as the PVR is the first receiver in the chain it's overloading the tuner for Mux 2. Will have to get the ladder out later to turn down the gain for now. Maybe remove it and the VHF aerial eventually, doesn't look like they're launching a VHF mux for now :D.

Most if not all firmware updates are done ota (over the air) which means you have to do nothing, the box updates itself.

But there are firmware definition files for Walkers out there. But there are different firmware definitions for different chassis types. Presently there is one OTA for Walker on the SSU carrier. That will only force itself to the relevant boxes, over the air.

No. I would not suggest you try any Walker fiirmware via USB as you could brick your box. I have no doubt that the same chassis firmware will work (there may not be a bootloader block on given they are rebrands) if the harware is the same.

My Samsung TV was giving 100% signal strength and quality for MUX 2. I think it was only 90% for MUX 1.

And to think, this time last year we were all going mad getting ready for DSO and only having one MUX to contend with!

Seems strange to have RTE 1 HD on a separate MUX to RTE 2 HD as this will limit the ability to record one channel while watching another for the majority of boxes that have just one terrestrial tuner.

I would think this is only a temporary arangement simillar to the RTE 2 HD simulcast they had when it started broadcasting in HD.

It looks like they will have four HD channels, two on each mux.

Think how excited we all got three years ago when Mux 1 went 100% on, end of test mode. Oct 2010 - soft launch of DTT. Promptly followed by TV3's exit from the signal, and a few weeks of petulance.

Never worked right since you got it? I think you should have heeded the advice given in that old thread & brought it back to Tesco.

Got the ladder out and checked, gain was already down to end. Decided to do a retune at the last TV point in the chain, all channels from Mux1 & 2 stored normally. Reinstalled it back at the main TV and all working OK.

Before I did the retune at the second TV point I checked the signal strength and it was ranging from max SS to poor signal.

Checked my brothers LG and Mux1 has a SS of 74% for Mux1 and 78% for Mux2.

    From the TV3 website
A public information campaign on TV, Radio and Online will be in place from October 21st, for two weeks, encouraging SAORVIEW viewers to re-scan their equipment. Re-scan guides and instructions are available on the SAORVIEW website and consumers can avail of additional customer support by contacting the Saorview Helpline (1890-222 012) or by emailing info@saorview.ie.

You should still get the Mux 1 (TV3 etc) if the scan is working right, as Mux1 did not really change in terms of frequency for most people.

If you were getting UK freeview, and the frequency was on a nearby Mux2 frequency, then you may get neither as one service is blocking the other. Depending on where you live your aerial may be optomised for Freeview over Saorview. Try a factory reset, automatic scan and then a manual scan if you know which site you received from before. If all else fails you might need a specialist to repoint the aerial, but freeview may no longer be possible from where you live. :(

Yes, thinking about this too. What is the final configuration going to be for this current retune? RTE1 HD on Mux 2 with RTE2 HD remaining on Mux 1 for now with further retunes necessary? Where will TG4 HD be, plus what will TV3 do?

Retune message from RTE1 SD EPG info on Mux 1:

Is there any notion of rolling out Dolby Digital 5.1 sound in the near future. They can do it immediately on rte one HD and put on rte two when the old sd channels go off the air in about 2 weeks time.

Not sure of the bitrate but according to Souriau's post RTÉ1 HD is using less capacity than RTÉjr.
