    Shocking video.
Never mind what the truth is as long as the Zionist view is what people accept as fact, even though its bollocks.

Just to clarify, I have nothing against Jew's, but Zionism stinks and the above video demonstrates that point very well.

    Glazers Out!

Propaganda/spin/whatever you want to call it has been a tool of governments and those in power since the dawn of time. The Romans were masters of political spin, dirty tricks and controlling the info fed to the populace. Nothing new here.

Well, yes, there is. We don't live in the Roman Empire. We're supposed to know what our goverments are doing and expect them not to waste our tax money on PR and spin.

Thats a good advancement from Roman times, at least the expectation is there, but that won't stop the silly people with trivial ambitions from having their way with the tax payers money anyway. You'll always have egotists ruining the party for everyone else.

Just wondering, do you have a reference/link for this?

I think we should debate united against these users we all know, they do it to us anyway. We can reclaim boards from the loony right.

How many users on boards do you think are paid to promote political views? Do you have specific users that you suspect?

I have no evidence to make a call on that.

    So when you say:

... what number of users are you talking about?

not everyone who is on a Right Leaning philosophy is a Loony ;)

So you believe they're just trying to put their ideas forward because they actually believe those ideas themselves rather than doing it on behalf of some agency or group?

Isn't that what most normal joe soaps on message boards do?

Yes they certainly are, but I feel they try to establish themselves as absolute authorities on political issues when they're voicing opinions rather than facts or pure logic not influenced by ideological doctrine. And worst of all they turn discussions into either slagging matches or who has the last word contests, which isn't constructive and essentially one of the reasons why people don't stand up to them as often as they could, because lets be honest one could spend time doing something constructive like playing music or writing a novel or just working in a job, rather than spending 2-3 + hours on and off arguing with someone who just turns the discussion into a solipsistic repetitions of the original points merry go round.

It works both ways of course, and this statement can be read as such, but essentially these individuals in their own minds can never be wrong in their assertions pertaining to political analysis and they will attempt to convince others of that by wearing out those who differ in opinion with them. That doesn't mean they're more skilled debaters or that their arguments are even good, with the benefit of hindsight or conflicting evidence their arguments are often revealed to be fallacious and full of selective thinking. Moreoever they'll attack in groups, maybe that means there are loads of people who share particular viewpoints and it is the norm for the internet, which is why I think posters of alternative dispositions should be more unified in putting across their viewpoints.

Does that mean they're ordinary Joe Soaps? Maybe not, because I don't think an ordinary joe soap would have the determination and patience argue a point to the nth degree until the other side gives up out of sheer boredom to make sure it looks like its the right point. Just to preface this, I support the formation of an Israeli Palestinian state though I strongly dissaprove of how the Israelis are dealing with the Palestinian issue, but essentially the video posted on Zionist bloggers is quite revealing on the thought processes which underscore the types of posters I'm referring to, they think they're right, ergo they are right and they will continue to insist that they're right until no one is bothered to counter their viewpoint. As for whether they're working for a government agency, I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility but I have no evidence on which to base a conclusive judgement.

I think you are referring to soap boxers on a particular subject. They get boring after a while and tbh, I don't see it as a pro or anti Govt. thing, both get boring after a while as does watching paint dry.

I know, you could learn more from reading a good few books on a particular topic, than reading through endless reams of internet debates.

I used to approach these things from sides and threads usually do go for and against. Good thing about that is you get both sides, it's up to the individual to take what they want from that. I do think it is informative in the sense that you do often get opposite opinions.

There's a lot of noise but I after a while you get to know the noise and see the quality.

Writers tend to have certain views and leanings as well and that should be borne in mind. Very few are right!

I notice most of that stuff on the politics boards comes from SF supporters. You could argue that they are just more passionate about their party, I guess.

True to an extent, I support SF myself but I Anti SF brigade seem to be out in force recently but I suppose its understandable that some people don't want MMG as president.

Start a thread on politics.ie condeming Israel and wait. Within a matter of minutes there are pro-Israel tolls agressively posting disinformation and calling you all sorts of names under the sun. It doesn't even matter what hour of the day or night it is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭steelcityblues

I don't know about many trolls, but I think the politics mods hate anyone with an opinion that is anti-establishment, be it on the EU, bailout, society in general. Especially, opinions you won't find in mainstream media commentary.

They come across as stuck up student officer types, rather than normal people.

Or do the opposite and you'll get a similar response

not quite true if the argument put forward is not inflammatory(sp??)and doesnt link to blatantly sh1te youtube video's or is quoting RT or freeman ideology etc.If put forward intelligently the view point will either stand or fall by its own merits.

most extreme ideologies whether left or right wing might sound good on paper but the majority of people realise putting them into into practise wont work.

Anti-establishment view points are in the minority so will always get flack from the majority of people anyway.

I remember reading a post by DeVore(might of even been in this thread) about a strange invite he got to an american embassy xmas do and having a chat with a an american embassy employee who was a 'translator'(:pac:)who said he checks newspapers, websites etc to see who's who.Apparently his parents still occasionly get a xmas card from the us embassy!

as for whether i believe there are paid trolls.Im sure there are.i think they are called PR specialists.but they are in the minority.

Police for example have been known to send in civilian police officers in demonstrations to act as agent provocateurs. So it's not unreasonable that they work the same way on the web.

    .

    What's a "civilian police officer"?

Is it some sort of part qualified oxymoron?

He means police officers dressed as civilians, pretending to be part of a peaceful protest. They try and get the crowd riled up to give the police a reason to run in, batons flying.
