I don't think cork named a squad officially yet.

I'm suprised as tipp have named theirs already.
Cork have been back training since december the 8th, bar one week from the 21st to the 28th when all counties were banned from training.
Michael cussen and adrian mannix of kilworth have been involved.
Id say the panel will be similar to last year bar those that have left or been dropped.

Damien cahalane has been named for the footballers against CIT in sundays game in the Mcgrath cup.
He said before xmas that he would choose between the two.

It looks like hes another player gone based on hes playing sunday.
At this stage it seems the squad will be a lot weaker this year.
Hopefully fintan o leary and padraig gould will come in to the mix.
Bill cooper of youghal would of been on the panel this year but he got injured.
If he has recovered it will be interesting to see if hes added.

The leauge will be very tough this year with kilkenny, and galway away games.
And tippeary and clare at home will be far from easy.

Tipp have always been an auld step or two ahead of Cork don't you know :p

Cussen?? Seriously lads that is an awfull step backwards, apart from the fact he is extremely limited as a hurler, and I use the term hurler loosely, he is cowardly to boot, not a good combination, surely there is more young talent in Cork that would be better served that recalling deadwood??

A friend of mine played with Douglas about 3 years ago and he told me that Odhran Mulrooney was playing with there Junior B team at the time and now he's playing with the Cork senior team some turn around

Yeah, tis true alright - played junior for Cork on his way up as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't he play with Munster at underage as well???

Are Peter O'Brien and Michael Walsh called up to the squad as well?! They are still involved with their club Kildorrery so will be sticking with them for the next few weeks! Also, having Fintan O'Leary, Padraig Gould and Adrian Mannix is a step in the right direction!

Any talks of what the Hurling team is for the game before it at half 11?

Fintan O'Leary is definitely a good step. One of the best forward talents in the County without a doubt!

would agree on Cussen. had his chance a few yrs ago, proven not to be up to standard.

I think its just a nod to Sars being county champions. will probably make the bench for a few league games but will hopefully be gone by the summer

I could never understand how Cussen and Aisake ever made the Cork team a few years back. Just goes to show there is a severe lack of talented hurlers in Cork at the moment. No one of the calliper of Ben o Connor,Joe Deane, Brian Corcoran, Wayne Sherlock, Sean Og, Gardiner and Niall Mc (in their day) coming through underage. All Irelands for Cork will be hard come by into the future the way I see it and im a Cork supporter.

the hurlers are there. the underage teams up to minor do well in various tournaments but it all falls apart at minor onwards. recent record in the Harty is shocking though

What hurlers are there? There where? Clearly Cork simply haven't good enough. In more news Eoin Cadogan and Damien Cahalane are after retiring from hurling. Strong speculation Brian Murphy might also be gone.

Cahalane is definitely picking football over hurling, was confirmed by Kieran Kingston, has not been confirmed about Cadogen yet

Didn't hear anything about Cadogan quitting hurling? Anyone able to confirm that?

On a seperate note Cork are playing a massive game of catchup in hurling at the moment and I think the problem has to stem from the roots where we haven't seen an All-Ireland winning underage team in over ten years. Think Donal O Grady wrote a pretty good few articles in the Examiner a few weeks ago where he pointed a massive finger of blame on the lack of support at secondary school level as possibly the primary cause of the problem.

Cadogen quitting the hurling is only a rumour at the moment, he hasn't start down with either Counihan or JBM since he is in Australia

Reported on 96 FM. I'm sure Finny Mc knows his stuff wrt this.

I wouldn't believe it simply because it was on the radio. I'd believe Kieran Kingston, whose statement says that the management team will be sitting down with Cadogen to discuss his future.

Cadogan has informed both managers he will be focusing on football for the forseeable future I was told by someone inside the hurling camp. Big boost for the footballers.

Maybe we'll see him improve now that he's concentrating on football but I don't rate him all that much tbh, still good for the football camp though

Would have said similar about him as a hurler tbh, he is a good squad player in both codes but not exactly what you would call a match winner, probably a stronger footballer alright and will probably improve as a result of concentrating on one code.

Don't really think he's a huge loss to the hurlers to be honest but what concerns me more is the fact that hurling in Cork is already losing a lot of players (and it's not as though we have that many at the moment to begin with). That leaves D Sweetnam, Walsh, Sheehan, Cahalane - all players who are good enough to play senior hurling with Cork and none of whom are playing. How many other younger players are out there looking at them thinking the same thing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭willietherock

Cadogan is obviously a huge loss to the hurlers despite being poor last yr.Clearly one of Cork's better hurlers over the last no. of yrs.Add in the fact the Cork have no fullback left on the panel with Cahalane's absence and they really are clutching at straws. I see they are back to trying McDonnell at fullback again just to see how stuck they are LOL! Summing up the duel players ( including Walsh and Sheehan) see no future in Cork hurling and it's hard not to blame them.

Well, worst kept secret and all that, but he's confirmed his decision via twitter in the last hour.

In this day and age playing both codes is extremely hard and can't be done for too long. I hope we see the benefit in his performances for the footballers this year.
As for the hurlers, it gives another spot for a new player to exploit- here's hoping anyway!!

In what way is McDonnell not a full-back. He has played there regularly for both Cork and the Glen.

Just wondering do ye have any interest in duhallow gaa? If so what do ye make of millstreet falling from grace down to junior from senior? By all accounts they used to be a fairly good senior team in the 70,s/early 80,s. But a lot of lads i speak to from there think they still should be senior. Any comment on this? Last i heard they got lucky in the draw to make the duhallow final last year.
