+1 on that. And it means for him, that he has a solid customer base.

I haven't yet found somebody as reliable for the VAG stuff.

He now services all of the family cars and I've recommended him to a number of friends.

I'd recommend him for VAG or BMW stuff......he is as close to a specialist as you can get and will happily go through everything on the car with you there. He also has very good diagnostic equipment (autologic)

Right now I have 2 bunny boilers thanks to my civic.

    And a regular puller too.

Many pics in my phone of my car for such situations :pac:

In that case the road is terrible to Nenagh

Speaking of check points. One right outside of the park Carrick mines at rush hour. You can't go anywhere to avoid them. One way system. Unless you just drive into the park and wait for them to leave.

They pulled up a guy in a jeep for a disc.

But when they checked mine it was just a quick glance.

One guard standing in the middle of the road doing both sides.

    No checks of regs etc.

Aye. The only thing that brings me down there is the monthly spin for the Cars and Coffee meet in Nenagh.

On a sunday morning with the right car and a virtual empty road, it's ok, but that's about it.

so i changed the wheels on my car back to the road tyre and alloys.

had great fun the other day when i was driving and heard a knocking noise... thought it was a puncutre or something hanging.

turned out on 2 or 3 wheels the nuts were loose !

i was up and down the M50 in this !

thightned them up and went away again..

visited the doc the next day and he thightned them all up for me and have being good since and keeping a good eye on them !

im missing one nut on the back left alloy but not too bad cos its 5 nuts a wheel.

anyone know where i can find a spare ?

You could buy the part in a motor factors or even a dealer for very small money.

This could have happened because the nuts that you are using aren't the appropriate nut for the alloys, and therefore don't seat properly. I'd get that look at if it was me.

They were the one's origionally on the car when i got it and we're fine for months. i just took off the winters and put the origionals back on.

dont exactly want to go to a dealer to but 1 nut as vat etc.

You pay VAT on everything so it makes no odds where you buy it from. Chances are the dealer will have it there off the shelf. A phone call to either of them will give the answer.

A factors isn't a great place for buying a wheel nut, they often can only order in full sets of them. A scrapyard may or may not have them, more organised places will keep nuts and wheel sets together, strangely enough.

As EPM said, a dealer may well have individual ones for sale, it won't be mad money either for one.

    ok i'll go with that.

down the road for me though next to the honda part garage (not dealer but deal hondas anyway) there is a salvage who have a 08 saloon civic with alloys so i'll head there first !

    thanks ya'll.

will they set right after time or was it just the way i put the wheels back on ?

You're talking about a part that's at most about a tenner.

It's difficult to find an honest mechanic who you can trust but worth hanging on to one if you do :)

+1 on that. And it means for him, that he has a solid customer base.

I have somebody just like that for the BMWs and I drive long distance to get the work done.

Marlowe, I know it would still be a bit of a Trek for you, but George Dalton has a serious reputation in the VAG community. Hea between Portlaoise and Abbeyleix. And he's on here fairly regularly too.

Can easily happen, you're meant to re-tighten the nuts after driving a bit when you've had the wheels off, as they do have some tendency to come loose

No man im being deadly serious. Lots of fellas have lumps and bumps or ill apologise in advance blood coming from places it should not be and they dont do anything about it. A good friend of my husbands died cos he just thought something would go away but it never did. It killed him in the end as it was too late by the time he went and did something about it. Having been screened for something of that nature myself very recently and pre C cells found its not a nice thing. BUT if making a joke out of it gets you all to fondle your balls tonight to highlight cancer then ill go to bed a very happy woman.
