I don't know if the PS3's test is of any use but it said my Download speed is 8.4mbps and the Upload is 1.7mbps.

That's terrible for UPC. What package are you on?

I'd never go with a PS3/Ps4 speedtest mate. It even says it on the console itself when you're doing the test that the results are only estimated.

It's terrible for sure, but he also seems to have torrents and stuff running when doing the test. You can see Utorrent and Ttorrent in the status bar, so that has to be killing things.

+1, an overlaoded phone is no way to test it.

The torrents weren't active when I did the Speedtest.

It's not as slow now as it was but still pretty crap. I killed all apps and got this:

    7KzNAS.jpg

I'm on whatever the standard UPC broadband is. South Dublin.

Setting up my iPhone I brought recently and every time I run a speedtest from it, it resets my router. Anyone else get this issue with the Vodafone Fibre router?

supposed to be getting 120 but I'm only getting this

24.83 / 10.17 on the phone. Both using WiFi ;)

You can't test broadband speed unless your WiFi connection is faster.

I can't post images but these are my speedtest results:

    Ping: 8ms
    Download Speed: 61.92Mbps
    Upload Speed: 15.93

For some reason tough when I try to watch streams off Twitch and websites like that, I have to watch on low quality because it won't load or it keeps freezing at any higher quality. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

That'll probably be low SNR down.

6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with little or no synch problems* (but see note below)
    20dB-28dB is excellent
    29dB or above is outstanding

What spec machine are you watching Twitch on Dimebag?

    Flash is very CPU intensive.

You could try livestreamer if that is the issue (apologies if this is not the issue)

What does it mean when it can't test packet loss?

    From speedtest.net faq
The packet loss test requires that a Java Runtime Environment be installed on your computer. Also your firewall must allow the test to communicate to the Pingtest.net servers (specifically outbound port 5060 for both TCP and UDP though that is being changed to 8080 before the end of the beta - some servers have been changed already). If our test is unable to communicate with Java or the packets are getting blocked by a firewall then the packet loss test will be skipped.

It looks like it got blocked by the firewall at your institution.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,780 ✭✭✭jamo2oo9

Well I don't have a firewall anyway as I've turned those off. Don't have any anti-virus programs like McAfee or Norton installed. I'll install Java Runtime Environment and see if that does the job

Moved to a new Apartment in Cork where it is not serviced by and Broadband except eFibre.

Eircom came and could only get 1mb!

So along comes DigiWeb Metro, and alongside my reservations going wireless, I am more than impressed!

On the 30MB package 1mb upload. 100GB per month allowance.

In the past three days my results are steady and constant

    speedtest.net/
    28.44 Mb/s down
    0.97 Mb/s up
    16ms Ping
    Grade: A+

Look at that low ping time!!!!!!

Some oddly varying results. On Eircom's efibre. PC has wired connection to modem

First is from the local server in Dundalk. Next is UPC Ireland, then Digiweb in Dublin and finally Vodafone UK in London. Puzzled by the first two, especially the UPC one, which I did a number of tests on. Wonder why its so low on the download speed?

Same. Eircom's been having problems with international capacity of late, now it appears to be affecting anything through INEX as well.

Join us in kicking up as much stink as possible over here

Thanks for the heads up. Was going to post last last night. The London server I used dropped to about 20-25 Mb/s download speed yesterday evening around 10. However everything was back to normal by around 1am. (around 77 download speed off all servers used.).
